I'm starting to miss my SBMM Ray 35, which is the cheaper but decent quality version of the EBMM Staingrays....

I may end up selling two of my basses to get a Stingray 4 or 5, but not sure which.

Which combo do you prefer? Apart from the classic "Why not all three" or "why not the P and J" comments.

What can't the Stingray do that the P or J can?
The 2 or 3 band EQ on the SRs seem to be able to give more punch like the P-Bass and more cut like the Jazz Bass if you dial it in right...I mean...what can it NOT do??

Stingray and the P. I think a jazz is a little redundant if you already have the Stingray. A Stingray isn't exactly like a jazz tone wise but it's closer tonally than the P is.
Interesting. I always felt like I got more P-like tones out of my 'Ray. Tone-wise, you may be right, I guess. I certainly feel like I play my 'Ray more like I play a P than like I play a J. Regardless, for me, it would be a 'Ray and a J. However, as I type this, I am sitting here looking at a P and a Thunderbird, so there you go.

My go to tools for any gig with a broad range of music types are a Precision with deep talking flats and a 2 band Stingray 5 string with black beauties. With that pair of basses I can cover virtually any song I come across. Classic, Motown, hard rock, cool jazz, pop, reggae, club dub, country, heavy metal, rap, grunge, polka, you name it - no problem with a P bass/Stingray 5 combo.
I got tired of hauling 2 basses to every gig and eventually ended up building a 5 string P bass Stingray combo - works great at getting the best of both worlds...

Sorry if this isn't what you want to hear...

All three. I have a Ray and a Precision, and I'm amazed at how many people I work under say "you don't have a Jazz floating around somewhere?". So I'm on the hunt for a Jazz.

Sorry if that wrecks your day...:D
