My VG condition pre-EB is identical to the sunburst on the EB site linked above. If the new version is worth $3K+ I have to wonder what mine must be worth now?
Yeah, for real!

I don't know much about EBMMs, nor do I have any GAS for them, it's just that the recent EBMM and SBMM announcements have me wondering who is actually asking for the feature sets that the Ball family is putting into some of their new lines.Yes, and the Classic model existed for that reason: you could have the look of the early with the spoke wheel and 6 bolt neck. they're still available on the used market and several for sale here on talkbass
I wonder why interest in Musicman instruments, particularly the Stingray have declined in recent years.
When they came out in the 70s, they were sliced bread. The fact that Leo Fender designed them helped a lot.
Yet, here at Talkbass, Stingrays are either loved or hated.
And as I mentioned in another thread, you really don’t see bass players in new and current bands using them.
I wonder why.
Mike
I was a little surprised the classic was discontinued in the first place, although if it wasn’t selling it wasn’t selling.
I bought a legit pre-EB Stingray for less than the price of one of these new ones

This comment has me scratching my head. Perhaps it is just a matter of perspective, but I see many, MANY pro bass players using Stingrays right now. Case in point, just go to any rock festival. I can personally attest to the fact that about 50% of the bass players in these pro rock bands are using either a 4- or 5-string Stingray of some type. Maybe your perspective is from other genres?
Did you see how quickly the last batch sold out ?I don't know much about EBMMs, nor do I have any GAS for them, it's just that the recent EBMM and SBMM announcements have me wondering who is actually asking for the feature sets that the Ball family is putting into some of their new lines.
But do you think you could do that today?
These are readily available, consistent in quality, covered under warranty, and risk free.
I'd like to know the weight of those. The original ones were nice but often too heavy.
Just at Sweetwater there is an 11+ ponder, a few 10's+ and some low 9's+.I'd like to know the weight of those. The original ones were nice but often too heavy.
The two currently available here in the UK weigh as follows:
Black finish: 10lb (can be seen in one of the photos)
Music Man Retro StingRay Bass | '70s StingRay H - Black
White finish: 9lb 4.0oz (can be seen in one of the photos)
