stingray eq question

i checked it out...nothing is wrong inside with the wires ...preamp...or input...this is a brand new bass dude...so nothing's going to be wrong with it....they usually check them out before they send them off to be sold...besides..if something was wrong with the input...no sound would come out of the bass or there would be popping and stuff...so there's no problems...and everything works with the battery in...with the battery out the eq knobs don't work...that's the only difference...and that's how it is supposed to be...hence battery= active electronics....no battery= passive electronics

that bass should not work without a battery or with a dead battery. It sounds to me like you need to check the wires in the battery box to make sure they have not become unattached. Just unscrew the box and check to see that they are properly soldered.

Mine came off and the bass sounded and behaved just as you are describing.

I still don't understand why the bass worked without a battery connected?
Is this a "secret" way of making these basses passive?

That's probably not the intention, but you kind of get that effect. It's not perfect... you have no facility to roll down the tone.

well this sucks...i soldered the two wires back on ....positive to the positive terminal and negative to negative...guess what happens....snap, crackle, pop.....what the heck....now my bass doesn't put out any sound at all...tried a different battery ....nothing happens...tried taking the battery out...nothing.....so i guess i'll be taking it in to get it looked at....i guess i really screwed something up....don't know what .....doesn't make sense to me.....i hook the thing up right and it makes it tear up....go figure :help:

Sorry to hear that man. Those little battery boxes can be a problem as well. I would have them check that as well. If it is a preamp problem you can take it to an Ernie Ball dealer to have it sent to Ernie Ball and repaired or replaced. They have sent me preamps in the past with no questions asked. Yet another manufacturer with great customer service.

yeah...that's what i'm going to do...i'm just worried about how long it's going to take for me to get my bass back.....months?.....you know how warranty crap is...i mean this bass is only a month old so the battery wires shouldn't have been off in the first place....plus the guitar center is an hour drive away from me so it's not the easiest thing to have to do but what can you do...i could send it myself but then i'd have to pay more for shipping and stuff ...i don't know....1000 dollars well spent huh...lol....no really i love this bass i just gotta get it working right....something must have happened during shipping or something because my bass was never active the whole time i had it....i didn't play it in the store ...i played another one ...they had to ship this one in from another store....the one they had at gc was not the color i wanted...plus it had a maple fretboard which i didn't want.....well maybe this will be ok in the end ...i just have to wait it out

Post a question about it on the EB board. Customer service guys hang out there and pounce on these questions.

well ...i took my bass to gc today...they are going to look at it and have it repaired by monday if they can...if they can't repair it then they are going to send it to ernie ball....does anyone know how long that will take?....anyway i played another stingray while i was at the store....i definitely could tell they pickups were very active....mine hasn't worked right from the start....i guess there's a bad egg every once in a while...but anyway they are going to fix it at no charge so that's cool....i'm just wondering how long i'm gonna have to wait

I would feel better sending it out to EB and waiting a week or 2, rather than letting any goon at GC touch the thing.

GC is ok for their good deals, and thats it.

The guy who might be "cracking open" that back access plate and putting his chubby ,stickey fingers into the electronics was probably flippin' burgers a few weeks ago at the local Mickee D's.
Just my opinion... :D

I have fixed many a GC "repair job" in my time. They don't keep repair guys very long it seems. A guy came in to my store looking for a repair guy job but remembering how many times I had fixed his botched repairs I had to pass. There is always acceptions to the rule but that has been my experience so far.
