Well that makes sense I wasn’t fond of them all for the sound I want but Personally if I was playing at a church or something the neck pickup was good for that, although I do a lot of slap and prefer open area there.
Thank y’all for your opinions

I mean, the way I see it is: Do I love the single H, "classic Stingray" tone enough to forego 4 additional tonal options? For me, the answer is heck no. But, I know some folks that can hear the difference between a single H and an HH with the bridge solo'ed.

I can definitely hear the difference between the various pickup positions. The HH is a very versatile bass.

I love my 5HH, it is my #1. Even though I do spend most of my time on the bridge pick-up (I love that tone), I like having the versatility for when that's just not the right tone. I don't know how you can go wrong if you like the way it plays.

I have both and I love the HH as it does allow me to get some different tones out it compared to the single H. However, you can get a lot out of just the single H with the eq. With my single H, I can cut the treble to like 25%, boost the bass a hair and then adjust the mids to taste and get a pretty mellow tone.

alot of people talk about HH not being the same to a H but i think that's all in their head it sounds the same to me and I also saw a post by sterling ball i think saying the HH bridge pickup was in the sweet spot location

The bridge pickup in both the H and the HH are in the exact same spot. I can 100% confirm this, at least it is on my specials.

To my old ears there doesnt seem a great difference in a single pup SRH to my SR5HH but maybe thats affected by my tinnitus lol I love my SRHH for its flexibility of extra tone..the single H bridge positioned tone that is the age old Stingray sound is just as good to my old ears on my HH and I love the added various tones that the neck pup can give using the 5 position selector on my 5ver. Best of both worlds to my way of thinking...and hearing lol.
Of course the tonal sound variations may be slightly different again when running a MM 5 string bass like mine too. I'm glad I went for the dual pup configuration in any event but I would venture to say if you slap bass etc the single pup is most likely your best choice.

I love the classic look of the single pickup Ray. It's iconic. I also love the look of the HH Ray, where you have two of those massive, mean looking humbuckers. I prefer the HH for it's versatility. The extra options are very useful, to me. I actually think the single pup Ray is versatile because of the active 3 band EQ. But the HH is way more versatile with the 5 way switch. Each setting sounds very distinct.

Also, I don't understand how people can claim there is a difference in sound between a H and an HH with the bridge pup soloed. The pups are in the EXACT same location on both basses. Both basses are identical except for one having an additional pup and 5 way switch.

I wanted to get the lightest possible so went from the single H and I think the tone is good enough and the EQ flexible enough to get all I need. Also I do like the space.

I thought I'd like a thumb rest and got a Zero Mod but actually I never use it and dislike the plucking the string. What I play does not call for that light touch. Probably will go on sale soon

Selling the zero mod or the stingray?

Has anyone here used a stingray HH I played one the other day but I want to know what y’all think of it.
Now, if Ball got smart, they'd start putting singles in the necks instead of two hummers. Keep it tight, and fatten the buck at the same time.

Oh sorry my message was not clear (bad to post at work while doing something else)

Selling the Zero Mod! The Zero Mod is made to pluck somewhere very close to the neck pick up. I got it because when I had my SBMM Ray in 2011 (as I was going back to play bass) I did not like so much the stiffness of plucking from the single H closer to the bridge. But now I think it's part of the Ray design that you also attack the string in that area. There is of course no limitation but it works very well!

My point I guess is that I would not be happy with the double H, I had a short experience with a Special HH, awesome bass but practically the Single H is the workhorse. And if I need more variety I'll pull the Big Al SSS anyway
