the neck dive on the T-bird almost makes it an un-giggable bass. I love those basses and i still play my Epiphone T-Bird live. The Gibson i had was for studio usually.

But the stingrays are very versatile. a Stingray 4HH could pretty much cover all the sounds a Gibson can with some effects maybe?

AND..

i'm told that Gibson QC isn't too good... :hiding:

I admit to being biased. I have a '79 T-bird and I know I would never trade it for a Stingray or anything else. That bass just plays and sounds too good, to me. I think the sound is very versatile, and the neck is fast and stable. It's been with me over 20 years and I have never needed to touch the truss rod. The pup's are hot, so I roll the vol's back around 4 to 6 usually and adjust tone to the style I want.

I really prefer any Thunderbird they're all I play, but I've owned a Stingray and its ergonomics are really good, and for most folks the right choice, Mine was kinda weak on the D and G string output tho. And as some one else said this really is Apples to Oranges....... Have fun choosing
