Stingray vs Thunderbird?

Voted for Thunderbird.
I love it's sound.

If you don't think about slap, T-bird will be good choice.

Stingray by far. It's such a usable instrument... It sits so well in the mix. Consider a sterling too or a SR5 for more tonal variation. And stick to a single H. The HH's are ok, but they miss the true vibe of a single H in the sweet spot.

The thunderbird is a niche instrument at best.

I prefer Tbirds, personally.


I just like how they feel. The problem I have with them is the somewhat dark tone.

I'm not a fan of Stingrays, to be honest. Not as a main instrument. Then again, I feel the same, but less strongly, about the Tbird.

Personally, I like a good passive PJ setup.

With a neck through maple neck.... alder body wings...

I'd go for the 'Ray by a mile, and I'm not even that much of a Stingray fan!

They are way too different-

T bird is a warm growly vintage sound and the Sting Ray is a modern bright sounding bass.

I know several people who ended up really disliking the Sting Ray brightness and ended up moving to a more vintage passive tone ( to a Lakland & another to a Tbird)

I would say it depends on the music you are playing.

yea personally i would actually buy a sterling over a stingray, but i still say stingray over a tbird
