Looking at purchasing a Music Man Stingray 4. Can't decide on the single pickup vs the dual pickup. Does anyone have any good advise. I am leaning toward the Stingray HH.

Get the HH. it doesnt cost a lot more and youll have 5 times the options in pickup config.

The few people I've spoken to who have played both have expressed favor for the single pickup version. I cannot say personally, but I'd have to agree that more pickups = more tonal options overall.

With the HH configuration, you'll have lots of other tones by choosing different coil combinations.

There are those that prefer the HS, have you tried one?

In the 4 string Stingray I prefer the single H with the 2 band preamp amd maple fretboard.
In the 5 string Stingray I prefer the HH or HS with the 3 band preamp and rosewood fretboard.

Something about the vintage tone that you can get out of the 2 band and not as easily out of the 3 band. But with the HH or HS that 3 band screams. So if you're into vintage rock the single H with 2 band preamp and maple neck is killer. If you're into newer stuff the HH or HS with a 3 band and rosewood neck may be better.

I'd go with the HH. Me and a guy I know bought a Ray the same day without knowing we both wanted that bass (2 stealth models to). We we're both supposed to have a single H but EB sent me a HH. It didn't bother me to pay the extra cash and after trying his bass, I was really happy they made that mistake because of the warmer tone you can get.

Keep in mind though that you can't go wrong with either.
