Sting's "Soul Cages" Fretless

so people like me would think they were cool for having one :)

just kidding. i wish they were still available. i'd buy a shiny new one to gig with. up close, mine is quite worn with age.

i've considered having the finish restored. i'm NEVER gonna sell it, so authenticity is not a big issue with me here. look how nice and shiny it looks on that germany video at the bottom of page 1 of this thread, esp. with the epoxy fingerboard.

Here are the promised pictures of my RB888, according to the serial number it's from 1984. The scans from the 'Soul Cages Concert' pics are following on monday or tuesday, because of some trouble with my old scanner I'm gonna scan them in my office...

@nofretz: have a look at the knobs, they are different to yours.

Enjoy the pics.

great looking bass, andreaska!

thanks for sharing.

yours is in WAY better shape than mine. that really makes me want to have mine refinished.

if you're considering going the fretless route with this bass, i highly recommend it. it has a great tone.

the THOR link i posted at the bottom of page 1 of this thread has great info on that, if you trust someone with your baby.

as for the knobs: my bass came with some really bad-looking non-factory knobs (see pics of case on page 1). i replaced them with some little black metal guitar knobs. i need to search ebay to try to find knobs like yours. my brochure scans show that your knobs are correct.

thanks again for the pics. that bass is beautiful!!

Here we go on with the documentary of this unique bass:

Pics of a Soul Cages Concert in Germany (11/1991). Enjoy!

@nofretz: see the knobs in pic 1; looks like yours... :hmm:

WOW!!

great pics! thanks very much for posting.

on the knobs, thats the reason i got the ones i did. they look the most like the ones on his bass that i could find.

i love the play between sting and dom on the last two. from the looks of the situation--(sting not singing), and the finger position (low F and middle E)--this is during david's solo on "mad about you"...just a guess :)

looks like dom is playing an ibanez, as well.

@nofretz
Now I have to congratulate you to your chose of the knobs. :)
Yeah, you're right, that's while the solo in "mad about you". You can see a bit in your video link (freeegg) at 3:29.
And yes, Dom plays a Ibanez RG series. In other shows he played a black custom fernandes telecaster.

I think we've found a wide field to discuss.
Speaking of the fenders...

No, not that one on freeegg. Don' noticed where that was. I think they did that as a kind of show part. I have to admit, that I'm not really sure if the pictures are done in that concert I've visited.

:D He weared that waistcoat in a faded green two years later.

Thanks for this thread. My question in other thread bout the bass been answered :)

Also thanks 4 all the positive comments here, esp for Mr. nofrets from Texas USA & Mr. Andreas from Germany.. I envy u two :-p

I wonder why Ibanez stop this series. Sure it's a great bass. I prefer the fretless one.

Keep it up! I'll monitoring this thread..
