Hello!

This actually reminds me, how are you folks with music theory? I don't use it as a measure of how good anyone is, it's just I would say the guy who plays guitar in my band is the main creative force and has learnt pretty much entirely by ear and can't explain how he does things, but he does them well in my opinion. I'd like to come up with more ideas but it doesn't come so easy so spend time working on scales, arpeggios etc. as well as transcription.

I hear a lot of great riffs from you guys, would be interested to know if this is based on a lot of theory or not.

This might not make a whole lot of sense...

I have something of a good working knowledge of theory. Was a music major in college before switching to history.

I use it pretty heavily in writing riffs, and especially in writing clean vocal harmony parts for my black metal band.

I've always found the anti-intellectualism of many in rock and metal music to be irritating.

I've hated all of Rob Zombies movies. I hated what he did with the Halloween movies, Myers is much more terrifying as an unexplained demon than a product of a broken/abusive household. I'll end up watching lords of salem eventually, but I won't pay to watch it.

I thought I was the only one.

All my friends in college seemed to like watching The Devil's Rejects. I found it kinda boring, due to not liking a single character in it.

But, come on, fvcking cough syrup? Robo tripping will make you Anna Nicole Smith fvcked and dumb. It's abusing pharma which is not good.

I was experimental when I was younger, I've done everything under the sun. Luckily, I came out of it with zero addictions and only a hankering for greens and booze.

I could use some feedback from you all. I'm getting close to being done with the building portion of my p-bass project and I'm trying to decide how to finish it. It's a one piece pine body, maple board on the neck, standard vintage style Fender hardware, black/white/black pickguard:

Right now I'm waffling on whether to give it a transparent or solid finish. If I go solid I'll probably just do spray lacquer, black or white. If I go transparent I was thinking of doing something amber/vintage yellow style. My dad is pretty good with finishing things, he used to be a furniture maker before he started building windows, so I've been talking over a bunch of different ways I could do the transparent finish. Right now I'm thinking I would probably lay down a sanding sealer, then a wash coat with a little bit of yellow dye, then some amber/blonde shellac and maybe a clear coat over that.

I'm not that experienced with spray finishes, so anything I do I'm going to do some experiments on some scrap pine first. Any ideas/feedback are welcome.

Transparent green.

Actually, do the whole thing transparent green. Including the neck.

I wouldn't have recommended this a week ago, but my new bass has this gorgeous pearl finish that gives it a very textured look....very purdy.

My Boss TU-2 still works ok. I've complained about the tracking not being so great in the past, but just thought I was being picky. One of my guitarists plugged into it when we were in the studio and agreed that the tracking is all over the place. Both my guitarists used Korg Pitch Blacks so I figure it couldn't hurt if we were all using the same tuner. Plus the Korg is more accurate which would help for setting intonation, as I don't have a real strobe tuner and don't plan on buying one just for doing intonation once a year.

I dated a music education major from her senior year of College through her becoming a middle school teacher in Florida and an elementery teacher Kentucky then we broke up. Anyway I always tried to get her to explain keys and some basic theory and harmony concepts that I had no idea how to articulate. But she could never understand what I wanted to know, and I know I couldn't explain what I really didn"t know what I was asking for, but I new it was called Key, and she would say you just know. Shady bXcth so glad she is gone. But I wouldn't give up and just found the right books and stuff on the internet and that helped me out a lot.

I turned into a gigantic pussy several years ago.

Stuff doesn't make me squeamish, but I feel like a mom about movies with ultra violence, absuive drug use, and super sluttiness.

Which is weird because I love sluts, drugs, and violence.

It's just that I am a smart dude that knows the lines between responsible and stupid. I don't have much faith in the rest of the population, though.
