My only dirty up to my sound has been my Fulltone OCD. I like it a lot and plan on keeping it, but as I continue to listen to my bass more closely, I see some sound void I need to fill.

My OCD dirties is up well, but I'm looking to add a fuzz or overdrive to the mix. I know there are tons of options, but wondering if it's best to start with a fuzz, OD, or distortion as my "foundation" ?

If the OCD cleans up enough on low gain you could probably go for a fuzz now, but think od is the most usefull of the bunch

The OCD is a pretty good distortion for bass, I like mine, but nothing substitutes my vintage big box RAT. It just has a sound I love for instant heavy tone. That clip I posted yesterday of the Dunwich preamp with the RAT and a little clean blend, that was in standard tuning and it sounds heavy as hell. It really doesn't take much either, I almost always keep the gain below noon. I bought the OCD to try to replace the RAT in a smaller format, but now it's just another flavor to have besides it.

Rat based, Muff based, Fuzz Face based... we got to figure out which one you like. Most fuzz circuits are based on one of the above.

I think most of us here like the muff based variants. Then there are dudes like Ron and Corey making the rat work.

Not yet. Still have a bit of writing to do, but definitely in 2013, hopefully the actual copies will be available by fall.

Muff based circuits when it comes to fuzz.

Most of the other fuzz circuits I've ever tried would never really click.

I still haven't even tried my Demon King yet. If practice is cancelled on Friday again. I'm gonna go down there and just play by myself for 3 hrs.

Damn, It is so hard to keep up with you guys. Everytime I think I'm getting close, I fall back 7-10 pages. For a second I thought I had clicked on the hippie thread with all the vegetarian and healthy talk. Anyways, this is still the best read on the internetz.

OCD/OCD type overdrives are my favorite as well. the most natural sounding with just the right amount of low cut to not get fuzzy, the really do just drive.

The benefit of the OCD is you don't need a clean blend to keep the low end. The RAT doesn't always sound bad without one, but I almost always use it. As much as I love my vintage RAT, I'm always trying to replace it.

yep. the general idea on both of them is that they have baxandall EQs (bass and treble) so you can EQ the clipped sound and add more bass back into it to adjust for bass drop in the clipping circuit.

Nice. I thought I remembered you had said they would have the baxandall on them. It's always awesome to see how a different eq can add to a pedal that you're familiar with.

When I first got a Rat King I was super impressed by the high and low clipping knobs as I could dial out some of that high mid honk-iness that comes with most Rat pedals, without changing the overall feel and tone of the Rat.

I'm kinda surprised more of us don't own a Dunwich Wizard Fuzz or a GT120 Fuzz.





(or a rackmount pre with a gt120 gain stage built in)


So is the answer, no one is as heavy as Bongripper?
