Finally have band practice tonight, we have to get some basements recordings done. Some of the shows in the works want a demo.

Were trying to get on a Torche show on June 1st. Praying to the DOOM Gods for that one.

So there may be some new tracks on soundcloud at some point.

Yeah, you're not going to get to open for Torche if you don't have some demo music. Usually how that works is the booking agent asks the promotion company for local band suggestions. Then the promoter sends them some bands and they pick. So if you have no music to send, you won't get picked :P That's how it typically works, anyways.

Depends on how big the act is. If it's just Torche, the promoter might be allowed to pick the local acts.

so this Sunn 1200S is not for me, and its not working properly on top of it. tone just isnt geling with my cabs or my bass, and my VR just sounds so much more "musical" if you will. i think im back to being a two tube head guy, so my search begins.

mr dunwich, have an amp question for you when you get a sec. get on FB when you can.

Some scenes are better than others, but you have to make it. We had almost nothing here. Now our little band has started a surge of bands. I have seen a few new Stoner Rock craigslist ads since we came out. Actually a drummer I played with for a bit had an ad up. I thought about getting in touch with him and doing two drummers.

But nah, I like the three piece.

Oh yeah,the original reason I came over for a second, this Conan- Monnos record is pretty heavy. So, Conan is the heaviest band after Bongripper (and they are a little ways behind you guys, Ron). If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm all ears.

*disclaimer. Not trying to diss anyone here or outside of this thread. No disrespect to any bands, I just think Bongripper has a certain heaviness that will be the benchmark of heavy for me to judge all other bands.. Some bands are heavy in their own way (Torche for example with the Z note). As always, IMO, YMMV.

haha, am i THAT predictable!? lol

honestly im not sure. i took off the grills on my cabs to see if the speakers were getting pushed too hard, and even at loud volumes they were barely moving, so i know it wasnt a power issue. but when id dig into the strings (especially the 2nd string, a D for me on frets 3-5) id get this nasty click/snap noise after a few seconds of hard picking. we tried killing off the gain but it was still doing it. maybe thats just SS distortion which i think sounds terrible, but i dont know. it wasnt expensive enough for me to have my tech look it over, and even at mid volumes where i wasnt trying to crank it, the tone just wasnt for me. Even my drummer noticed how much better the SVT sounded with my setup on clean. the bass response on the SVT is much smoother and musical, whereas the 1200S could get bassy as all hell, but it was more muffled and wooly sounding lows.

Ron if you read this, i know a dude in your band uses a sound city, which model is it, whats your take on that and have you ever run your bass thru it? im eyeing one of those as id like to try one as my secondary amp. i might just go the SS sunn/acoustic route again, but i just have a mad boner for tubes with my setup haha.

BeeBass sorry the Sunn isn't working out. That is definitely a bummer it's acting up too. The first 1200s I bought actually blew up after like a week. I returned it and got my money back. The one I own currently actually belonged to a friend who thought it was broken (a black puff of smoke came out of it one day when he turned it on). I brought it to a tech, they gave it the go, fixed a couple of problems with the design of the head (the heat sink is too close to the PCB and can fry it, which is what happened to my first one). So they isolated that, and it's been working perfect for me ever since.

That being said, when I owned my SVT-II (non pro) I would switch between the Sunn and the SVT and I definitely noticed that the SVT had that magical warmth and musicality in the midrange that only an all tube amp can produce. But it ended up losing to the Sunn in the end due to sheer volume and low end clarity that I just could not even remotely get from the Ampeg. Even with a more standard tuned bass.

God, I'm a volume whore. There is not other way around it.

it happens haha. that sunn is loud as all hell tho, even at like 3 it was nuts. i cant imagine tho how useful the volume is past that or maybe 4, cause itd have to start distorting at some point. it would be cool to hear just how clean that thing could stay past that, cause you are correct, the SVT will start to breakup before that sunn will.

just not sure how useful either of those volumes are haha!

and let me know about that sound city.
