Stoner/Doom Bassist Thread Part 13: The Lost Thread

Hey mc_muench

I can't believe it took me this long to figure out that your icon photo was 'The Ancient Aliens Guy'. I knew I seen the guy before , but it took me a while to figure out where I seen him before. I've only seen the show a couple times.
Awesome icon though! ;)

I need a bigger board.

Hey, which ATK is this? I don't remember this model.

And that is a sweet looking pedal design, Nick! ;)

For those that don't know, my Avatar represents the recently departed Stompin' Tom Connors. A Canadian legend and all around badass. Picture Johnny Cash except Tom actually lived or experienced everything he ever sang about. First concert i ever attended was Stompin' Tom. I was 11 years old and it was Canada Day in Brockville ON.

I felt kind bad that I never heard of this guy till I was listening to NPR on the ride in to work earlier this week and they said he died.

I think it was the Pens @ Habs game I was watching last week where they did a big opening ceremony dedicated to his memory.

Got a free CD with my ATIH order from a band called Gallery of Mites. Never heard of them, but they sure know how to market this...

"The Stooges meet The Stones in this ten man, bourbon-soaked garage fest featuring five lead guitarists! GALLERY OF MITES. Gallery of Mites includes members of Monster Magnet, Solace, Lord Sterling, Halfway To Gone, Black NASA, The Ribeye Brothers, with a guest appearance by John Garcia of Kyuss/Hermano."

Check it out:

I dig that one, total stooges-worship dirty-ass rock. Good stuff.

Preamp tube question. When I first got the Traynor YBA200 someone mentioned to go heavier on the master volume then the gain control. They also said they swapped the preamp tubes and liked them much better. I think I have my head wrapped around the eq on the Traynor now. And really dig it. Just wondering do you guys stay 12AX7 or swap them for something else. I get dirt from pedals, so only really need warmth out of preamp tubes.

12AT7 or 12AU7 will work. AT7 has more gain than the AU7 but can sound a little harsh, the AU7 is warmer and sounds more like a power tube in my opinion.

Thanks, I remember swapping some tubes around from a Fender Champ and the Hartke HA200 I had and they made quite a bite of difference, but sold the HA200 off and can't remember what I slapped in that one.Think I will get a pair of AU7s to try for Squires and Giggles

You all that do pickup swaps, what company or companies do you like for volume, tone pots, jacks, etc? I usually just reuse what is in the guitar or bass but I worry about getting cold solders and stuff since I am a novice tinkerer and think it would be nice to lay the stuff out, do a dry run with no solder, till I check and recheck everything, then solder it all up. I worry when using the braid to pull the solder off I don't get enough off.
