That's the reason I passed. In the end it seemed like too much money to pay for a custom build of a vintage mass production cab with modern drivers thrown in. Even though it may have been worth the time and materials for what work would be done (assuming the unfortunate production woes never came into play), the end product didn't seem worth it.

I ended up spending the money on my Drake Custom. No regrets there.

Pick of the Rics or the Rickenbacker boutique should have them. I'm pretty sure you can just buy a pickup with out all of the surround. You may need to buy the mounting plate for it or you could probably reuse the old one. Also there is a couple of guys over on the Ric resource forums that will rewind your old pickup.

Your having some good luck lately huh?

Thought I'd ask here first. My Lakland has been sounding progressively worse lately. The problem is mostly the D and G strings. Anything below the 12th fret, including open notes sound dead. Almost like there is a compressor or something clamping on the attack and killing sustain. Any ideas other than get new strings. I'm assuming it's not the strings since they sound fine above the 12th fret.

could it be that there isn't enough relief in your neck, so the notes are getting choked out?

fret crowns too high?
some people complain about dead spots from the fender style

headstocks- maybe a fat finger or adding some kind of headstock mass could do the trick (or that could all be BS).

Tracking info is updated. Cab should be here either Wednesday or Thursday, depending on how the hold at fedex location thing works. I have no idea if that package includes my carvin box. He sent me the tracking number today without any explanation or apology, and then never answered my reply about if the Carvin was with it, and why on earth he lied to me like that.

Most of you guys probably forget about this, but in a brief moment of "holy **** my magma is here for a second time and finally works wade is a good guy" euphoria I actually placed an order for a BLKARM. Then 5 days later I realized how stupid that was and tried to cancel. Wade told me no he already ordered "supplies" which was actually just $50 worth of tolex, and he had already used up all the money. That's when I opened a PP dispute, got refunded, Wade's PP account went into the red and things got really bad from there.

I just looked on that website to see if I could find just the pickup and I couldn't. Already contacted the seller (who you said was a great TB'er) and without asking he immediately offered to PP me $150 to cover replacing the pickup. I had a feeling he would do that, just based on the interactions I had with him before purchasing.

When was the last time the bass was setup? Did you experience a big humidity swing (winter to spring) recently and since the last setup? My guess is the neck probably developed a bit of a hump and needs a truss rod adjustment, plus the saddles may need raised a bit. A back bow in the neck would explain why it buzzes in the middle but not up the neck, and your D and G strings will be more affected by this because they typically sit closer to the neck than the E and A strings. I recommend a setup before trying anything else.

Here's a question a bit more on track...

I'm broke as hell and can't afford pedals/amps/cabs to make my stoner doom stuff and have ended up experimenting a lot with Guitar Rig/Amplitube to get tones instead. I know it's cheating, but whaddayas reckon? Cheapskate way of trying to get by or just plain cheapskate cheapa*** cheating?

In some actual GOOD news from my side, I went and signed the lease for a new practice space in Pittsburgh. A/C, heat, ceiling fan, industrial door for our room, lifts + dollys + elevators to make moving gear from your car to the space super convenient, clean power, lots of outlets, a clean bathroom, a good neighborhood and high security. These are all things our old space did NOT have, and we're only paying an extra $20 a month.

Most of my nice expensive tube amps/pedals/etc are usually stuck round at our practice shed (I can't drive),so I've had alot of time to play with the free trial versions of guitar rig/amplitube etc.Infact just about all of my plug ins are free trial versions,that cut off after 30 minutes.It's not easy doing a mix down in 30 minutes before all your plugins crash!
Anyway,I've found that those kinds of software can give you a sort of general idea of what such and such amp sounds like.
Want to try a *insert pricey amp here*?
Dial it up and give it a whirl-then know that if you had the real thing it would sound like that,but 100 times better.
I suspect that if I ran the software through a power amp and into a real bass cabinet it would sound much nicer.I couldn't possibly imagine have a full band practice/gig with software amps.We're all used to hear bass through a bass amp,not a computer
The bottom line is,scrimp and save,get some real gear.Even low end real amps sound better than high end modelling-especially for doom.

The space itself is $385/mo for a 16x14 room which is the biggest they have. We are sharing it with another band, so the cost is split in half. 5 members, so we're each paying about $38/mo. Pretty damn good price considering how nice the place is, heat and AC are free, and you can even rent a truck for 4 hours to move **** to and from the space and you don't even have to pay for the gas you use! She was quick to tell me that is only during business hours, so we can't use it to go to gigs ;)

not sure what your going for but I suggest saving a few bucks and getting a fuzz(used russian muff maybe), running it through whatever rig you have, and destroy.

Our place with dirty power, no a/c, and a sometimes working freight elevator is $350...
