I've done that too, with the same results.

I prefer to keep my 5 around for variety and for jamming on standard tuning stuff. Being active it also has a slightly more modern sound. But, in all my serious band projects I play vintage'esq 4 strings.

yeah, i could see that being handy on a different type of gig, but not for heavier music. i'm more interested in going lower, not higher... i usually rock the drop A, though I'm doing more of a post-metal (cheesy but apt description) type thing.

my 1st good bass was a 5er (EB SR5).i had to adapt because it sounded so much better. had i had a good 4 to fall back on, i'd probably be playing that. it took about a year of playing 5 exclusively before i was totally comfortable. As cheesy as it sounds, i think 4 strings look cooler.

My original band tunes to B standard (guitarist uses a 7 string set on a Gibson SG and set the neck/saddles/nut up to take it), so for me a 5-string works perfectly. I've always been a 5-string guy and feel completely at home on it. I also have a fretless 6 and fretted 4 that I like a lot, but 5 strings is my "home".

I just saw Billows tonight. They floored me with how tight they were and their new set is killer. You must make time to see these guys. Also check out Confused Little Girl, Ape, and as always Admiral Browning!

Thanks man! Richie was a riot. Meg video taped one of our songs. She hasn't tried that before with that camera so hopefully we didn't clip the **** out of the built in mic. I'll have to see how it turned out in a little bit and throw it on the youtube.

Short answer: It sounded fantastic.

Long Answer: Well, so many parts of your rig impart their own special character. BB Fuzz, Chromes, Bass Bombs, SVT. I would say that the combination sounds great. I'd love to hear the ATK soloed to get a good listen.

I used to play BTB's so I do enjoy Ibanez's but I know that the ATK has a different vibe than what I'm used to.

Haha thanks man. Yeah I'm really happy with where my tone is right now. I was really impressed by the tone the APE! bassist was getting too. After playing a VR and hearing that one I keep thinking I want one. Have to keep telling myself I'm happy with my SVT CL because I am!

And here is proof that I bass face!

I trust you guys to help me out more than the Amps forum, Im thinking of adding a tvx 210 to my 410 and running my red knob concert bass at 2ohms. Is this good or bad and what should I know about running a 30+ yeard old amp hard?
