Also depends on what amp you're using. Myself, I have the OxFuzz bass, Rothwell Atomic Boost, JHS Lo Drive, and a Fuzzrocious Dark Driving.

The OxFuzz keeps surprising me with it versatility, I could just have 3 or 4 of those on my board to cover all my boost, OD, distortion and fuzz needs, but where's the fun in that?

So this weekend was the first time I really "let loose" with my band as we were playing a house show with a bunch of people I didn't know haha. Managed to get stoned and drink a fifth of evan williams single barrel vintage before we even started playing. Unfortunately my SVT died when I tried to turn it on which really confused me considering the high amount of inebriation. Apparently I didn't play too bad for not remembering even playing.

On another note, the new Sourvein album is heavy as baaaalls. Check out this song: YouTube - ‪SOURVEIN - Fangs‬‏

They do an incredible job of keeping that steady continuous head bobbing groove while not getting too slow to be boring or getting too fast to leave the groove. Awesome stuff.

Not sure if many of you are familiar with Hail!Hornet, but back before I was even really into sludge I randomly bought the first Hail!Hornet album at a best buy because I thought the artwork was cool. Popped it in my car and I was assaulted by an onslaught of the dirtiest, sludgiest, gnarliest riffs I've ever experienced. Fast forward a few years and it is still one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time. It is a super group made up of Troy from Sourvein, Dixie from Weedeater/Buzzoven/Bongzilla, Erik Larson from Alabama Thunderpussy and Vince Burke from Beaten Back to Pure. Well they finally have a new album coming out in July and I can't wait. The 2 tracks that have been up for streaming haven't impressed me as much as the first album. Not a fan of how the drums sound. Hoping these aren't direct from the CD and that the CD will sound better. We shall see!

So, what kind of options do you guys use for OD? I'd love to add a little dirt to my tone. Anything you guys like that keeps the bass heavy? I've been thinking of trying a SansAmp VT pedal for that.

I still love my Fulltone Bass Drive. My band's not a straight forward stoner project, but [del]we[/del] I've got a lot of stoner influences that work their way through.

On our recent studio outing I had parallel rigs running running the Bass Drive on one side and Wren and Cuff Pickle Pie B fuzz on the other. I think the bass tone came out with a nice balance of definition and punch as well as fuzzy saturation.

I got an idea,even though it would be exluding myself, we should totally get together a TB Doom comp cd... Just thinking out loud. We could then give them away at shows so people can hear bands they wouldn't otherwise know.

I had the same thought. Lots of good bands on here to put a solid CD together.

I guess the first step would be to see how many bands are in.

I know Monobrow would be.

I would definitevely get one of those CD's if anyone would send it to me.. but personally I wouldn't consider my band skilled enough to want to be on a CD with you guys. HELL, Monobrow even got an #8 in the Stoner Hive's Top 20 albums of 2010! Congratz Sam! ...I saw it on your facebook page.. How cool is that?

Tho, I gotta say, to me that list doesn't feel all that complete without Ufomammut's EVE on it..

HMMMM... Im sure Nagato would be into it depending on the timing of when we it gets put together. We have some demos.. but we are just beginning to actually record an album. We would be happy to put a track from that when its done.

On the topic of FX...
I actually use quite a bit. I run a Sansamp BDDI and Eden preamp for a standard saturated tone, but add to that a bunch where appropriate. I'm not at all into my Boss chorus pedal so that hardly gets used. I have a EHX Micro Pog that I'll use under solos (one guitar band) for that 8-string sound. I have a Pork Loin pedal I use for some fuzz (for an OD pedal it can bring the noise... literally). I have an EBS phaser that I use for necessary swishy effects and just ordered an EBS bass wah.

For samples. The one song (Ivory Tusk) with the huge swishy noise is actually a flange plug-in the producer had.

Effects are fun when used right!

Okay, since it was brought up again I can't let this one go.
I love effects and have alot of them. But they haven't quite gotten as much use in band settings as I'd want.. not counting fuzz ofcourse. That is about to change tho as I am finally setting up a pedalboard. It will include 4x fuzz; wooly mammoth, supercollider, oxfuzz bass, and a meathead standard. 2x delay and 2x envelope filter, which includes my moogerfooger 101 lowpass. And also my MF 103 Phaser. Reverb. Flanger! Chorus. A booster, and also my Octron 2! and yeah, a EHX freeze; and a custom loop switcher for using them all in paralell with each other or for having different fx affecting the neck and bridge pickup of my ric separately. **** is gonna be crazy...! ..and huge. The plan is to have detachable part of the board with just the bare essentials for when I don't feel like lugging an extra suitcase with me.

I bet! Well, it does mean that obviously alot of people are digging your stuff! Don't know how much, but I would certainly think that it means alot. Btw, have you checked out Blackbombaim's album that also was on the list? I remember them from stonerrock.com as well and if I recall correctly they were doing some pretty cool stuff.

I wish I could find cool people here but no one seems to think that my ideas are any good.
Yeah, they're far out, but I want to make interesting music, not music that's been done before.

Yeah have a similar problem here or maybe I just have really weird taste in music even for the genre. Can always learn guitar/drums or drum programming and do it all yourself though! That what I've been doing and am also getting ready to record the songs I've wrote but I don't think I'll get to play them live ever

It's like people don't get it. I kinda feel like this is the scene. It's what you make out of it. This must be the way people felt after seeing Black Flag circa 1980.

i know what you mean. i've spent literally a year looking for a drummer that has heard of Sleep. it's sad, actually. But this guy seems pretty freakin cool from as much as we've talked. 'm so stoked for tomorrow.
