Stoner/Doom Bassist Thread Part 6

that p is beautiful... i need lines though.

i just watched the 1st 7 parts of the BBC Hawkwind doc on youtubes. nothing great, but still fun. it hints at a lot of things happening in the 70's that were present in the band: the conflict between hippies and "urban guerrillas," psychedelics vs speed, music as art vs $, etc. i lost interest after lemmy was kicked out.

I played cello from kindergarten to 4th and upright bass from 4th through 12th grade. I grew up with no lines. There's nothing like your chest vibrating behind a upright strumming an open E...that growl too. But I've played enough classical music for a lifetime, still love listening to it though, but now is the time for rock.

That is awesome man. There is something about the cello that is just amazing and haunting. Not really doom but Virgin Black makes great use of cellos and even full on orchestration in their albums. Kind of a goth, doomy, black metal hybrid.

I'm hoping my son will show interest in music that early. I wish I had, the extra 10 years of experience would gave been nice.

Also that pbass is beautiful.

Well I'm very grateful that my parents pushed me through it, I will definitely be doing the same with my kids someday.

And it depends on how I feel about wrecking an all original but when I do acquire a slab of a fretless P, I want to throw a Gibby mudbucker at the neck and one of those double J coils, with a switch turning it from a humbucker to a single coil, at the bridge. Then for controls, I'll want a master vol, master tone, and blend.

If the bass is too B E A Uuuutiful, I'll just throw a John East P-Retro preamp.

How did I not think of Rondo? No, rosewood board fingerboards though, I'd have to contact them to see if they will be getting any anytime soon. Give me some time to save! Or I can convert the fretted P bass I'm buying once my taxes come back. But that one isn't a burst, and I really want a burst fretless

hawkwind are amazing saw em in november 2011,i was with my mate andy who saw em at stone henge in the 70s wish i could go back and visit that time
