Stoner/Doom Bassists #64 - sensitive artsy emo chicks

My very first bass was a horrible piece of ****, sold that to the guy i was taking lessons from in high school. My second bass, which i got when i was fifteen is a bright blue bc rich warlock. I still have it, is pretty beat up, and the little bit of money i would get if i sold it doesn't outweigh the sentimental value. I still dig the hell out of it, super fast neck, good sounding p pickup. Needs to be rewired, which I'll be doing soon.

I have 2 basses I keep around for sentimental value. My first bass a Yamaha RBX250 p style bass that's been upgraded a bunch. But surprisingly it sounds and plays pretty great, currently on loan to a friend who wanted to try to write some baselines for a solo project he'd been working on. The other is a 80's Washburn bantam headless steinberger style bass. My dad got it for me as a surprise while traveling, got it strung up with flats and will play it with a bow from time to time.

I could get a small amount of $ for both, but overall the sentimental value doesn't outweigh that amount.

Plus both play and sound pretty good and they both have purposes from time to time.

It's hard being a Batman fan when you have kids. You're kids are asking every possible question about a superhero and you've got to justify it.

Was having a discussion wiht my son about the difference between superhero's and those without special powers. He asks, the difference between Iron Man and Batman. My answer felt sucky. Both super rich playboys, both super duper intelligent with an eye for military weapon design. Batman is driven by vengeance; Iron Man driven by excessiveness

All the traits the Bat has, Stark has seeeminly beyond and puts it to use in the weapons field. On paper Iron Man looks like a more advanced Batman.

I asked my brother, who is a diehard Batman fan; He responded, "**** you, Batman always wins."

Guess that's just the break Batman gets.

Superhero beatdown has Wolverine killing Batman. I agree that he doesn't compare to mutants, but that fan video was pretty sweet and fairly dark.

Lol. Yeah me and a guy from work have a bi-weekly argument about batman vs superman. I've shown him the comics where batman whipped superman's superass.

From my brother:

There's a bit in this great Batman story...

There's this gang of evil dicks called the Black Glove.. They're a group of five superrich ******** (like billionaires and Chinese generals and whoever) who **** up peoples lives and bet on the outcome. They'll have some dude seduce a guy's wife and arrange for him to come home to find them, and bet on what happens. Will he leave? Will he forgive her? Will he use the pistol in the nightstand? On her? On the dude? On himself?

Ladies and Gentlemen, place your bets with the Black Glove....

So these cocksuckers hire the Joker and go after Batman. And they play the LONG GAME. They spend years taking over Gotham's underworld, and then just go away. They remove all the supervillians and crime dicks. Crime in Gotham nearly vanishes, and so they take away Batman's reason to be.

They forge a lot of really convincing evidence that Bruce's dad (Dr. Thomas Wayne) was a total **** who uses to show up to the operating room totally drunk, and only his fortune kept his vast malpractice secret. He used to regularly beat his wife Martha, who retreated into morphine addiction, and take away Batman's revenge.

They manage a hostile takeover of Wayne Industries, and take away his money.

They put a beautiful woman in Batman's way, give him someone to love, and a promise of a life away from Gotham.

And when they come at him, they COME AT HIM. They kidnap Batman's "girlfriend" to lure him in. She betrays him and doses him with a lethal level of Scarecrow Toxin and Joker Venom. They burn Wayne Manor, destroy the Batcave, and put Alfred in a coma. They beat Batman severely, lock him in a straightjacket, and bury him in an unmarked grave.

They go to Arkham Asylum, let out all the inmates, and celebrate their victory inside.

And the Joker steps up.

He wants to join the Black Glove. They say no, while we appreciate your help, this is a game for the super rich, and a glove has five fingers, only five can play.

Joker giggles. I've killed more people than all of you put together, and I've burned more money than you have ever made.

He steps up behind the software billionaire and drags a straight razor across his throat.

Joker claims his place in the Black Glove and says

"I know how you all feel right now, it's intoxicating, knowing you've beaten him, but I'm just going crazier and crazier trying to keep up with him. You have no idea what you buried in that coffin, gentlemen.

I place my bet on the Batman."

And then KHOOM the power goes out in Arkham Asylum

and Batman drags himself out of his grave

and the Joker starts laughing
The single best part of that story is, when you read it again, you see that Batman figures out they're coming for him about three pages in, and is sucker-playing them about the entire goddamn time. It is GLORIOUS

Cept for the part about THE SPOILER ENDING WE ALL JUST READ!

Dammit I got sucked in again....

Well, when it comes to books/comics/movies/series like that I don't really feel like the good guy winning is a spoiler.

For example... (minor spoilers ahead)

In the latest Star Trek movie when the enterprise was in peril I knew that they were going to get out of it. But it was still exciting/entertaining to watch. It didn't draw me out of the spectacle/action that was happening.

All that being said. I do love getting a good surprise/twist that comes out of nowhere.

Had one of those practices where it just felt good. Used my backup Trace Elliot AH250 tonight and it surprised me just how good it sounded with a Bluebeard. Lookin forward to the TB1000 showin up hopefully it will arrive before practice next week.

hey max - when you get back from the world at large, string up with Rotosound stainless .050-.110s.. you'll thank me later..

Hey I'm in the market for new strings... broke an A string during the last gig, why I'm using an ATK in some of the pictures from it.

That bass just didnt feel right and by that I mean, it didnt feel like a ric...I'm fully converted.
