Man, I'm not a fender guy by any means, but there's a MIM roadworn P downstairs that is pretty damn comfortable. Frets are artificially worn down, the thing practically plays itself with zero buzz or clank. It's still waay out of my price range, but I was surprised at how nice it is. Easily the best P bass I've ever played.
The roadworn things a turn off for me, but I always hear similar good stories about them.
Maybe look into an a way to evenly wear frets down slowly?
Yeah, I think the roadworn aesthetic thing is kind of stupid, but it doesn't really bother me.
For some reason this just seems easier to play and more comfortable. Could be entirely psychological. The strings on it are a light gauge and they're pretty dead, that could have a lot to do with it as well. I'm used to playing a heavy gauge 5-string, so these strings seem tiny by comparison.
I'd imagine the roadworn series by design would take more human time and concern to certain details, so might not just be mental.
You should try my 30" scale bronco with a .95 E string. That's easy playing.
The fret thing was interesting. Up to 9th fret they were unevenly sanded. They looked like this: (Normal fret on left, modified fret on right, as you're looking down at the top side of the neck, forgive my MS Paint skills)

So the exaggerated slants face toward the nut?
Maybe the sharper angle helps with the intonation in that area.
And from my ventures outside of this thread, it seems people tend to stick towards those "money frets" so they'd be most worn.

Brutal ice storm around here. People keep email back to work talking about their car accidents. One totaled truck, a car that needs a new front end... I'm riding home with one of my co-workers. While I'm glad that I'm not risking my own vehicle, I don't fully trust this guy's driving ability.
This is how I generally do it on my Rickenbacker. On my Peavey I just turn down the volume.
