Stoner/DOOM Bassists Part 83: WHAT YEAR IS IT?

hey fellers. not been here for about 20 parts.

thoughts:

replaced the bluebeard with a MIJ DS-1, been slamming the riffs and beers mostly.

rick still going strong after the unfortunate neck splitting mishap.

saw one of my favourite bassists use 2x AD200B + ampeg 8x10s tonight. one full dirt, one full clean. something to aspire to perhaps.

thanks to mr copeland for turning me onto "Whores." on spotify, sick tones on that new album.

i got a new job at an electronics supplier - i get to test out all the new headphones for "work purposes". sennheiser HD518s really bring out the most of an album you've heard 1000x before in a quiet, home environment - better than the grados i've used imo, and far more comfortable. my day to day travelling headphones are tossed up between two at the moment - between the Sennheiser Amperior and the Bowers & Wilkins P5. Amperior is far more balanced as a whole for all sorts of music - the B&W cans have a way more pronounced low and low mid response which sounds sick for our kind of music. i need to find a good phone and DAC for real listening now.

NIFF!!! WOOOO WOOOO!!! You get trapped and stay in Japan awhile...did they force the DS-1 on you?

How's Stone the Crows going? We still need to do a split someday!

Depends on which model of Senn. Some aren't nuetral at all.

My most nuetral phones are the AD2000X they can be cool but sometimes boring to listen to. Depends on my mood I guess. That's why I like options.

I have a pair of HD 280 headphones. Preferring a neutral sound is just kind of a side effect of recording and mixing. I used to always prefer bass boost. It's a different ballgame with my truck stereo.

I've done extensive listening to lots and lots of headphones for a project at work and came to prefer a flatter frequency response. If i feel like hearing more low end I'll use the eq on the source to do that. I'd rather do that than have a baked in eq curve that i can't change.

Oh you got a recording of your EB-3?

Yes, here are some practice recordings right into my h2n in the room. This was our second practice with the drummer. Some of these songs are written, some are being worked on. Nothing has vocals yet, but I like to post the recent practice for us to all listen to and work from during the week. The track titled Quiver is mostly BB, and the ending is the centurion w/ some wah and there's some phaser on a couple of parts. I don't think the rat tail is on any of the tracks....... Enjoy!

Was seeing Against Me! weird now that the singer has undergone a sex change? Honestly they lost me after New Wave so I haven't been that interested in them since.

I never saw them before, but also only really get down on the first 2-3 albums. Her hair is slightly past shoulder length, so you really can't see her face while playing and kinda looked like anybody else with long hair rocking out. From the front and side she looks feminine and her speaking voice is somewhat feminine.... Her singing voice however was spot on. Kinda weird but it was a good show and they played a fair amount of old stuff, + it was nice and close to home, and the ticket was free. Win Win Win.

$800 for it and the 4x12 it's too much I think. When I only want the head. And I bet he'd not separate.

AD200 interests me but seems pricy compared to used SVTs, though there's so many svt variants to look at.

Seems like a good deal to me. The cab probably won't bring much when you flip it, but really any two channel tube amp for 5 bills is a decent deal. Maybe you can trade him something to sweeten the deal.

Seems about right, maybe a smidge high, like $700 for a matching set...Peavey cabs may not bring in big bucks but most of them are absolute sleepers. That stack would be one hell of a guitar stack plus that roadmaster through the dually would be a very DOOM bass rig.
