Stoner/DOOM Bassists Part 83: WHAT YEAR IS IT?

Yeah over 12 hours and no post? What's wrong?

Finished the PA 412s last night, verdict....Not really usable as bass speakers, but I'm starting to think no matter what speakers I put in these cabs they wouldn't work for bass, the cab just isnt big enough for bass frequencies. But these things are trebley and clear as a bell, they would be great for a loud funk band, and when I run them with the 18s, its a perfect two piece full range sound. I'm happy with the way they turned out. I'll have pictures tonight.

Does anyone actually run the big spider on their board?

It was one of the first pedals I experimented with. I got rid of it because of the noise and bass loss, but I've been thinking about it ever since. I just can't get it out of my brain. It was just so extreme and knarly. I talked to Ben about putting a clean blend but he wasn't really interested. I'm thinking about just trying to EQ the bass back in. Or I've been thinking of running one of my heads really dirty EQ'd with less bass and more mids and hi's. I'd like to try it (b.spider) in this setup, but not sure if I'd get the clarity of the notes I'd need. I'd use my second rig for lows with a little od. Just my plans, who knows what it will sound like when it's all said and done.

I have a demon king on the way that I traded a tafm for. I just couldn't get anything I liked out of the tafm. I'm excited for the DK. It doesn't have the hpf/lpf switch. What am I losing by not having it?

There is a lot of confusion around the switch in the Demon/DK. Some say it's just a high gain/low gain switch and not hpf/lpf. I've asked but never really gotten a clear answer. The more I play with it the more it sounds like it just adjusts the amount of gain available.

I wonder what I'm losing out on by not having it? Like what I have available without it?

Yeah that's exactly how I felt about it. Loved the solo tone but found it really would hinder the ability to cut through a band mix. Not to say you couldn't find a way to make it work though.
I think it's inevitable that I'll give it another go.

Not much. What you get now is the high gain mode which means you lose a very tiny bit of control/fine tuning ability on lower gain settings. But it's really not significant.
What I was hoping for.

Obviously my camera doesnt work when I'm down at the space but works as soon as I get home.

Decided that I'm gonna make a new stained headshell for the Vulcan while its away. And got a good idea for my PA 412s that involve a few hinges and a latch or two.

I have to use a camera for work. Huge POS. Works great taking pictures of my shoes. The meters I'm supposed to take pictures of, not so much.
Stupid camera. The damn thing makes me look like an alcoholic.
