Question for you guys. The Moog Phaser has the opposite polarity than the typical pedal. Is there anyway I can still use the DC Brick to power it instead of having to use a separate wall wart?

Yes, but you'll need a couple special plugs/adapter things to go off the connector from the DC brick.

I can play a Reel Big Fish song, that's about the only cover I know. Never been interested in learning others stuff. Which helps explain why 22 years of bass playing resulted in me being mediocre at best.

Same for me, with guitar as well. Never really learned many covers, until after I was in bands already and people wanted to play a cover for a show or something. I just started by jamming with people or writing my own (terrible) songs. Also playing a lot with people who were playing really simple standards/ballads (including some Mexican folk rock, weird story) and learning how to make up fills and basslines off the top of my head, that was really helpful. Guitar it was just learning chords and notes and writing songs by myself, then starting punk bands. I already had classical music training before that though, so I wasn't just jumping into completely ignorant of music theory in general.

Corey and Max, I wish bandcamp would work on my computer at work. I'll have to check out the warp rig and FM demos when I get home.

I never really learned how to play songs, I would learn some random riffs and parts here and there, but outside of a couple of covers in the very early days of playing music, I kind of just played whatever, or made up my own stuff to practice with.

I don't think I can play a song that I wasn't involved in writing all the way through.

Cstvt did a cover of Cringe by Alkaline Trio a few years ago...but I doubt I could remember how to play it...

All my energy has been put towards writing.

But otherwise, no patience to do that kind of guitar work.

+1 I will diddle along to some songs, learn the riff or chord progression, but note for note, not since I was a young buck taking guitar lessons. But lately I have been trying to catch up on learning some. Mostly been trying to train my ears to hear intervals, chord tones/arpeggios, common chord progressions, so I can learn more songs by ear, hopefully. I like trying to make my own riffs and progressions up.

I can identify with that last remark. I'm not the best guitar player, I can't solo for crap, but I've written a lot of songs. I'm more interested in the making music part that the technical proficiency. It doesn't mean I deify sloppiness or anything, but I spend more time songwriting than practicing for technical proficiency. If I write something that's kind of hard to play though, it ends up being defacto practice and I improve my skills some lol.

I started bass with a borrowed squier setup and some nirvana tabs I found. Took a few lessons but the first guy was too far, and the second guy was too much into wanking my time away.

Learned the most playing with others working towards something. Generally I'd write riffs and stuff and have friends learn covers, then I'd show them what I wrote, we'd dress it up some and then they'd teach me a cover or two and we'd do that a few times a week. Usually we'd record and write down a lot of what went on, but I lost nearly everything somehow. But I liked heavier grunge/punk stuff, guitarist liked indie stuff and delay/fuzz noise, and drummer loved thrash and pop, but liked anything. So we'd create sets of written stuff and covers and run through them and jam for like three hours then next few days we'd meet again run though the miss ups of last time, redo what we nailed, then learn something/create something. Was really cool, but it's been so long.

Played guitar with a drummer at home loud, and bass with guitar playing friends at apartment levels last couple years. Trying to find a local denton drummer with similar tastes, but just guitar so far, but that's still good to have.

I learned a lot of Sabbath on guitar - then did my best to figure out the bass parts. Also Slayer - I had the tab books for Sold Our Souls... and Decade of Aggression so that's were it started. Shortly after that I started learning Eyehategod and FuManchu stuff.

I switched over to drums pretty quickly because there was kit in the house. I played bass in a really, really terrible punk band and the drummer for that band left his drums in my basement. I had another friend who wasn't in the punk band, he'd come over with his guitar and amp and I'd play drums. We did slayer, sabbath, eyehategod, black flag, ramones, fumanchu etc. covers. Pretty half-assed but it was good practice.

I had three different guitar teachers as a kid and none of them taught metheory at all, mostly taught me songs. So I was that annoying child but why, but why so been trying to learn enough theory to see how the bass and guitar line up together for common music, how to build a chord a chord from a scale, Nashville Notation, etc. What can I play on bass besides the root notes over that guitar chord progressions kind of thing. Not trying to bog down in theory too much but just to know some rough guidelines. And it seems to be helping build up my ears, and it makes it easy for me to sit in with the acoustic jam guys and just have them tell me the key for the song or the chords and I can thump along. When the guitars guys say to me to throw a song out, I just throw out a chord progression I have been fooling with and they usually dig it and jump in, but I should learn more songs I guess.

Any opinions on 80's Peavey Butcher tube heads for guitar? Got potential to nab one with new tubes for $300.

From the videos the guy sent me (I'd have to meet halfways to get it) it sounds like a great one-trick-pony Slayer / early Metallica tone amp. I could hear traces of Matt Pike-ish tones in any heavy chords running at high gain. My only concern is how to run delay or reverb in front of a dirty amp (never done it before) and also whether the baked-in distortion will be sensitive to input volume (able to clean it up by twisting the volume knob or kicking off a boost/fuzz pedal.) This'd be my first tube amp, I've just really wanted something legit to jam guitar out on in my basement and informal jams.

But besides growing up play cello and upright bass "covering" Mozart and Bach in schools orchestra, which I couldn't remember one line if you had a gun to my head, I haven't really ever learned covers. I'd rather make and prac my own riffs that challenge my ability. And just jamming with other people with very different styles.

The old Peavey Butchers are great amps.

Honestly I think we put more effort into doing that set, than we did with some albums we've released....actually I know we put more effort (re: heroin)

Reworked the way it is, it's a classic doom anthem. Right up there Born Too Late and Paranoid. IMHO of course...

I had one of those "whoa" moments with that song last night driving back from the grocery store at 10:00. Victor's voice is pretty spotty on that first album but he absolutely nails that cover.

Sludge/Noise rock version would be cool.
