Yeah, I don't think we'll be reamping my bass. Just the Mesa into the Ampeg 15" worked well enough. I'd be surprised if we did.

I kinda want to, just for kicks, but it would probably be unnecessary work. The DI guitar tracks will probably be deleted, and the bass DI track I think will probably end up just mixed in enough to sit under everything else.

I had one track on our album reamped from the di track. I used a different dirt pedal for one song and i didn't like the way it sounded. So i ran the di track back through my pedal board and amp. It was pretty cool hearing myself play while not actually playing.

I had a good practice tonight. I dialed everything in and got some nice tones out of the dirt pedals. The rat sounds really good when i feed it more lows from the bass, i just back it off a bit when i switch pedals. I also tried a different combination of settings on the Bazz fuzz and came up with something i really liked.

I compared those two to the two older dirt pedals that i have, the Ibanez PD7 and the Bass Big Muff. The distortion setting on the PD7 sounds squashed compared to the rat but i still really like the od setting on it. I can nail the bass tone from the first queens album with that pedal.

The BBM was the loser of the bunch, looks like the Rat is going to kick it off the board. I don't think I'll sell it.

No i don't have clips of the Bazz yet, but I'll get some done. It's possible that i could do it at work, so i should probably make that happen.

Finally got my replacement Echo Shifter, so took it down to practice last night. It's like "Space Ritual" in a box. Spent a good 15 minutes pissing my bandmates off with phaser and oscillation. Good times.

Delay-wise, it's not as "lush" as my Memory Toy, but I'm still pretty happy with the sound, so I think the MT will be off the board soon. I'm considering getting a low-medium gain dirt, so that'll free up space nicely. Might just get another Joyo Ultimate Drive because it still blows away all the other dirt pedals I've tried. Admittedly I've not tried anything really pricey (Fuzzrocious and the like), but it just sits perfectly in the mix to my ears.

I used my UD as primary last practice. I like how it reacts to your attack. We have a new song that goes from quiet to balls heavy. The Joyo worked so good I kept it going. The muff and UD work like Siegfried and Roy.

Any opinions on 80's Peavey Butcher tube heads for guitar? Got potential to nab one with new tubes for $300.

From the videos the guy sent me (I'd have to meet halfways to get it) it sounds like a great one-trick-pony Slayer / early Metallica tone amp. I could hear traces of Matt Pike-ish tones in any heavy chords running at high gain. My only concern is how to run delay or reverb in front of a dirty amp (never done it before) and also whether the baked-in distortion will be sensitive to input volume (able to clean it up by twisting the volume knob or kicking off a boost/fuzz pedal.) This'd be my first tube amp, I've just really wanted something legit to jam guitar out on in my basement and informal jams.

Thoughts?

Check out all my YouTube vids. The guitar is always running through a Butcher with a Fairfield Barbershop as a boost. Also the majority of the guitar on our first album was a Butcher.

It's got a unique tone and really really loud.

The excelsior would be cool if I could fit a more bass appropriate speaker in there, but the pignose on my bench can be anywhere from 40-60 watts when finished, so it'll function from home practice to acoustic jams I imagine.

I'd like to build a cab for it, using those speakers max used (MCM?) I'm not familiar with speaker cab design, other than bass cab = tricky, and guitar cab = easy. The MCM speakers seem like they'd handle both instruments if you weren't going crazy bassy. Something like a 1x15, 4x10 or 2x12 in guitar cab sized box.
