I put a set of regular scale fender flats on my short scale and it was not easy. I had to crimp the string and finagle it on.

How did you do it? I read a thread where a guy cut the ball end off, then like crimped and soldered metal connector pieces to the new measured ends. He said it worked, but I'd think I'd tune up and rip the solder.
Well a friend had to file the bridge a bit then he ran into the problem of getting to fit on the post. I cut it to length the crimped the piss out of the end with a set of pliers. Just enough to get it turning and finished it by hand.
Someone needs to invent a open style tuner, where you can drag it through, big enough for bass.
i've got a matched set of KT88s to buy, fellas. what's most genre applicable, the biggest output and most reliable kind?

I have tried almost all the current production tubes. dont waste time or money the diffrences in tone are too subtle to notice especially if you are using effects. Sovtek KT-88 is hard to beat for the price. lasted a good 5-6 years in my SVT. EH is also good. the JJ will probably sound closest to the vintage british KT88s. a little more hi-fi than the russian tubes. dont waste money on NOS and dont discount the new chinese tubes. they are supposed to be some of the best new production tubes, just make sure you buy from a reputable dealer that knows how to test and match. i have had a few issues with tubedepot.com sending poorly matched tubes. thetubestore.com is a little more expensive but more consistent.
Biggest output is the EH according to specs but i never noticed any significant change in volume. Most reliable is hard to say. its a crapshoot sometimes. but all the new sensor stuff is consistent, JJ goes through phases. winged C is over-priced.

I don't know how a band like HoF writes these nonstop, 8 minute songs (besides they rule). The one we have is just over 3 minutes. And it has four verses. (Treked)
Anyone else interested in these Joyo pedals or just me being a cheapskate?
I seriously want to get a cheapie delay. Behringer or Joyo? (I can't believe this is a real question) I will more than likely be grabbing either the Voodoo Octave http://www.pedaltrader.com/JOYO-Pedals-JF-12-p/jf-12.htm, Ultimate Drive (OCD clone) http://www.pedaltrader.com/JOYO-Pedals-JF-02-p/jf-02.htm, or both. A delay for sure. And maybe a flanger or what else you guys think? Building some noise effects and spacey double delay psych parts while my guitar player leads all over them. This should start getting awesome when we jam this 20 minute crazy jam that my guitar player has in mind.
The Joyo stuff gets great reviews all around, most of them are cloned from more boutique-ish stuff. I haven't used any of them personally but have had my eye on them for awhile.

It has a delay on it, which I've been using for the intro of one of our songs. It sounds fine when it's engaged, but there's a few odd things that make want to kick it off the board.
1: when you disengage the delay it continues to oscillate/repeat, even though you can't hear it. So I'll have the delay time set pretty long, with many repeats and turn it off while it's still oscillating. If I turn it back on a few seconds later, the repeats/trails will still be going. This is annoying.
2: I hear weird ghost noise and oscillations even when the pedal is in bypass mode.
These may be specific to this pedal, but it makes me want to avoid using this thing in any sort of performance or recording situation. I'd go for the Joyo, which is exactly what I'm going to do for a replacement delay.
Well we didn't record it so I'm not sure. It's likely our shortest song, probably coming in around 4:30 or 5:00.
Also, there's a Grind Fuzz in the classifieds. I already have a RT on the way so don't think I really need to try another dirt pedal right now, but I've wanted to try another HE pedal since I love my El Oso so much.
Even though most of our songs are above the 6 minute mark, they kinda all feel like 3 minute songs.
I know what you m,ean about HE. I was looking for them to have something else for bass.

I soley blame this theread for my nonstop pedal GAS.

We have one song that's about 10 minutes. Some days it flies by but other days Im like, "is this still the same f'n song"?!?

8 Minute songs isnt that hard to write if you play slow IMO, I'm currently working on a 30 minute drone / atmosphere piece... which has been an awesome challenge.
I have a JOYO ultimate drive and love it, it sounds almost dead on to the original but actually with a tad bit more low end, and a ridiculous amount of volume. Joyo are definitely solid pedals at a great price point. Go Behringer for modulation and reverb effects, they are usually clones of well known pedals, and stick with Joyo for your dirt and delay needs.
Don't worry we're not easy to understand, nobody is that takes 20 minutes to explain what most others do in 3 minutes hahahaha.
BassBoy hit it pretty much on the head, EHX if your feeling stingy, JJ if you got the little extra loot. My Dunwich runs JJ KT88's and sounds hi-fi as hell (I don't think the tubes have everything to do with that though) and my Orange is running EHX 6550's which are really warm and thick, very musical.

When I was playing with Oldcrow we always played these 3 songs in a row with riffs that bridged each one. So we said **** it and recorded it as a 20+ minute song.
we do that live a lot. we just string the songs together or try no find interesting transitions in between. usually our live sets only have 1 maybe 2 breaks between songs...mostly because we don't have any interesting stage banter...

Think I mentioned this before, but our one guitarist has a looper pedal that can play MP3s from an SD card, so we have a bunch of samples on there that we play between songs when we play live so there is no silence. Some are funny clips, some are clips from sci fi movies, and sometimes its just droning feedback. I think it adds a nice touch.
So that brings up an interesting question since I'm the guy with the mic, what the hell do I say between songs? Thank the venue for putting us on. Thank the headliner band. Anyone else? Maybe tell the crowd to buy some drinks? I don't know. It's been too long since I've had to do any of that.
I'll keep Behringer in mind as I look at effects. I love the Bass DI from them. Just makes me nervous as most of their stuff is in a plastic box.

This is where my guitar player get most of his tubes for his vintage fenders. Don't know of it will help since I've never really needs tubes as of recent so I haven't really looked on here.

Thank the venue and headliner, name drop your band and any other bands on the bill, announce the last song and remind them to tip their bartenders. That's the standard fare from what I've seen, I hate bands who talk to much especially to each other between songs, having an issue and having to work it out is one thing but your not at the jam spot your on stage.
Behringers boxes are pretty weak IMO but i have to admit i was pretty surprised by their reverb pedal, didn't sound half as near as bad as i expected.
