Hey doom brothers! Enjoying a dreary day rocking Sleep and having some pumpkin beer(among other things;)). So last week I had asked/bugged ampegfuzz & beebassdude about their knowledge on Gibson Rippers and/or/vs. Gibson`s G-3 bass. Both were up for sale here and I was having a hard time picking one(I had mighty GAS for both) so I was looking for help. It`s a moot point now because they were both sold before I even emailed the sellers. Total bummer.

I`ve been lusting over RD standards and artists for a long time(imagine my surprise when I found out how many dudes used them in heavy music). But now that I`ve turned my attention to the Rippers and G-3 I was wondering if anyone else here had/has experience with them. I`m still looking to snag one down the road.

I know lots of guys like the RD`s because their neck length is ideal for down tunings. I would imagine that holds true for the Ripper/G-3?

just got back from Toronto, picked up the B3K from the post office. It's definitely different from anything I own which may make it a keeper but it's hard to tell. Completely different philosophy from the dwarfcraft, fuzzrocious, oxfuzz, bluebeard, mountainking etc. offerings. a lot more polite in the mids, doesnt have the angry "brown sound" much more modern and smooth. We'll see how it works in the mix. If i can get it to cut through then it should be really cool.

Had a Drummer at rehearsal on Friday, but it was kinda weird cause he was much older than I thought. We were jamming Killing in the Name of and he didn't knew it, so he messed up the breaks...seems like we'll have to keep searching.

My rig was awesome though, even if I had to turn up quite a bit more than I would have thought.

well I'm definitely no photographer, and the room is quite dark...

The cabs are made by a German custom guy. They are pretty light and come with a switchable 8 inch speaker.

The Bass is a MiM 50s classic upgraded with a Babicz Bridge and a SPB2. Has a pretty nasty 7th fret G string dead spot, but sounds great IMO.

BTW, Joe, have you considered something like a Line6 M9? It can do the weird sound thing pretty good and isnt quite as expensive as a custom pedal...

The pedal I'm eyeing for my noise stuff is under $60. Just looking at some other cheap stuff to throw in the mix. I'll probably be on the hunt for some used behringer stuff. I think I remember their Delay getting some love. and that joyo place has pedal starting at $38. Should be able to find enough stuff to make a racquet. Almost went to Salvation Army yesterday, but didn't have measurements on my current board to attempt to look for a suitcase.

Between a feedback looper, my current delay, wah, and fuzz and maybe another delay, flanger, and maybe an old Ibanez syth bass, and I should be pretty noisey/spacey. Now, to get money!

DO you think I could part out my Peavey logo stuff like "vintage peavey logo cab handles" or Vintage peavey logo? Might get more from cab by selling parts off of it. Still sell an empty wood box for $20 on Craigslist, I'm thinking. Any advice on that? It kinda kills me to part out a cab, but I'm not doing anything with it and it's not the 215D that we all love, so? Opinions? I could sell the cab handles for like $10 each and the logo for like $10. Then sell the box for $20 and I just increased my selling power by more than 50%.

Explorers tend to be neck-divey. Can be worked around, though.

I wouldn't worry about the scale. I mean, Rickenbackers are less than 34", too, and they handle low tunings quite well.

Just got psilocybe #71 with sweet green sparkle paint and the offset switch on the bay for 125. I will post some pics and clips when I get it. I think Sam said we was interested in these. There's one on the bay for like $20 w/ 2 days & one in the classifieds do 139... Maybe the dude want a baby thunda...
