I recently drank the kool-aid over in the effects forum and picked up a Darkglass B7K. While initally the pedal didn't really interest me, after so many glowing reviews and endorsements (mostly of the B3K, but still) I decided I needed to at least try one out. It also doesn't help that I've been on a gain pedal buying binge and have wanted to grab some sort of dirty preamp to mess around with. Got a good deal with a black friday coupon off of rouge guitar so now I have one.
Gotta say, it's pretty damn awesome. Most of the clips and videos I've seen showcase it's upper midrange grind, kind of the scooped rise against sounding distortion, and while it does that to a T, that specific sound isn't really isnt my thing.
However, with the addtional EQ on the B7K I was able to dial in some pretty heavy gain tones, and by pretty heavy, I mean massivly huge sounding bass tones. With my Ric into my 80's GK combo at home the B7K made all my other pedals sound like they were coming out of a tin can by comparison. I am honestly shocked at how thick the low end is on this pedal.
I know I'm in the honey moon period with the pedal, but so far I'm really glad I gave in to the hype and grabbed one. I'm working on reconfiguring my board to make it a permanent piece of my setup. This also means I now need to find a new MXR/Boss sized pedal to fill a gap that my reconfigured board will now have. I'm thinking something practical like a noise gate (as my freqbox has a bit of hiss that I find annoying), or something impractical like a Freeze...
Also Rat into the B7K sound so damn gnarly, I'm stoked.
The Spider gets really mixed reviews. I think it just sounds better with some amps than others. I've had setups that it sounds great with and others that it sounds like total crap with. That's a bummer, and quite the dilemma, while any tech should be able to fix a power jack, but I would want to send it back too. True about no, XLR on the MS, but it does have a 1/4" out with speaker sim. I have not used said 1/4" output yet, so no details on that. Good luck on the repair.
Have a great show tonight!
(its only a max occupancy 250 person club though so its not that big of a deal but its still nice to see that next to your band name in event listings)I've been listening to the Tron soundtrack alot lately, which makes me wanna smoke hash and dance in snow haha.
I've been quietly coveting your tube headphone amp for awhile. Quietly coveting...

Being a southern Black woman I have no other way to be.
I think it's a Dopesmoker kind of day for me. Work rig all set up, time to fire it up.

I just did some research on iBasso, their sheeit is legit! A lil pricey but only once you get into the uber audiophile stuff. I may have to watch ebay like a hawk for some used ones. I need something just like what you got in the picture for work.
they have gotten a lot more expensive. I got mine around 3 years ago and i paid way less than $200.

they do have some budget ones now it seems, I'd probably be happy as a clam with the d-zero for 109$ and one of the 15$ ipod > 3.5 connectors. I don't have the need for an expensive setup, but it would definitely get good use between me and the wifey.
on that ambient music tip....
Stars of the Lid - get into it.
