Don't let me noobishness detract from Aen / Dwarfcraft's build instructions! They are simply schematics, and I had simply never read a proper schematic in my life. I made assumptions that turned out to be wrong... really the instructions are fine, and the Dwarfcraft dynamic duo are really pleasing to deal with, and I'm sure would answer a question if you hit a wall. Just dont want my experience to make anyone not get a pedal kit from him. Laz's guitarist uses the Dwarfcraft "The Internet" fuzz and it slays.

Funny you post this now... if you follow this thread for a bit you'll find most players stick to passive electronic basses because fuzz and drive pedals just seem to work easier with them. I just picked up an active Sterling bass (the Indonesian Stingray) and spent yesterday morning introducing it to my effects board. I found that with the active pre, its best to start with EQ knobs flat middle, and volume turned down to about 1/2 (I used the screw on the top facing straight up to keep myself in check and around 1/2 volume.) Corey Y's "Gain Staging in a Nutshell" synopsis is a good explanation of the concept of gradually increasing your gain in a chain of gain-modules, each step affecting the tone and adding gain along the way, leading to a fuzzy aural orgasm when fed to a high power amp and a wall of 15" speakers. Very much a "sum of its parts" sort of thing.

They should offer a class about dirt pedals in school. Those that pass get a doctorate in fuzzology ;).

I've considered buying a tgd kit for months. It's silly cheap... I just worry about it turning out the same way as toast's lol. I worked at radioshack for many years and did a lot of soldering (our store was old school) but I don't want to mess it up. Maybe I'll finally break down and try it soon.

Band practice tonight, yay. Doing tonight and have a singer coming Monday. Really hope we can find our guy soon.

Oh btw, grats laz on the press. I'm now officially jealous.

They are great pedals, the only problem with mine is that for some reason when you plug in a 9v power supply it won't work. Works great with batteries, no issue at all, but nothing when using a power supply. Since i just got it and don't have a show for a month after tonights show, Im gonna send it back to Ben to have him fix it. He's not the quickest shipper by any means though so I might not. I'm really interested to try out one of the meatsmoke pre's, my only quarrel is that it doesnt have an XLR out, when making a preamp / DI that should be a no brainer to include.

Class D amps have been around for over 30 years, broseph. They're as old school as your Acoustic heads.

I recently drank the kool-aid over in the effects forum and picked up a Darkglass B7K. While initally the pedal didn't really interest me, after so many glowing reviews and endorsements (mostly of the B3K, but still) I decided I needed to at least try one out. It also doesn't help that I've been on a gain pedal buying binge and have wanted to grab some sort of dirty preamp to mess around with. Got a good deal with a black friday coupon off of rouge guitar so now I have one.

Gotta say, it's pretty damn awesome. Most of the clips and videos I've seen showcase it's upper midrange grind, kind of the scooped rise against sounding distortion, and while it does that to a T, that specific sound isn't really isnt my thing.

However, with the addtional EQ on the B7K I was able to dial in some pretty heavy gain tones, and by pretty heavy, I mean massivly huge sounding bass tones. With my Ric into my 80's GK combo at home the B7K made all my other pedals sound like they were coming out of a tin can by comparison. I am honestly shocked at how thick the low end is on this pedal.

I know I'm in the honey moon period with the pedal, but so far I'm really glad I gave in to the hype and grabbed one. I'm working on reconfiguring my board to make it a permanent piece of my setup. This also means I now need to find a new MXR/Boss sized pedal to fill a gap that my reconfigured board will now have. I'm thinking something practical like a noise gate (as my freqbox has a bit of hiss that I find annoying), or something impractical like a Freeze...

Also Rat into the B7K sound so damn gnarly, I'm stoked.

We do love playing PA, the last tour we were supposed to do our van broke down in Freemont Indiana, before we played a single show. We currently still have that same terrible van which is preventing us from doing much more outside of the chicagoland area. But hopefully sometime in 2013 we will get our **** together and get back out that way. In which case, we'll definitely be in touch.

Also, if you're ever looking to come out chicago way, hit me up and we'll work something out.
