There is usuall a pretty decent volume drop when running both pups in a pj. It helps when both pickups are close to the same output.

Good informative article on how to solder. Also the link for the iron from circuit specialist is a awesome iron. Cs1a I believe. I have one and love it. It is also very cheap. A small pair of vice grips should help getting those screws out. Good luck finding pickup screws though. When you get those screw out and some new foam then adjust those pups should be a boy better in volume drop. I bet the bridge pup is higher and a tiny bit of the problem. Also a good set of pups to try would be the wilde p/j set. Great reviews and easy on the $$ new. Next maybe Dimarzio.

I can't stop playing this Sterling Ray35. My only complaint is its heavy as a mother, but the neck just fits in my hand like it was made for it and its got the Stingray tone in the bag. I opened her up last night to check out the electronics and see how easy it would be to add a Passive switch... alittle daunting since I want to keep the active pre in there, but I think it'll be do-able. Researching "passive Stingray" is hilarious and reminds me why I despise the general population of old school bassists.
Oh, and in OTHER news, my band Mechanized Man finally has our first gig booked, thanks to our very own Lazarus Bird! Yep we're playing with Supervoid on Dec. 22, pending the end of the world and all that jazz.

Nice! That was my major complaint with the OLP I had. The neck was a little wider than what I normally like (playing a Jazz for so long). But the weight is what ultimately killed it for me. The tone was monstrous, even with my passive model. Man, I am missing that bass a little bit now.

And if the attendance is low, make sure the road guys get all the door (or the what they need to get gas, eat, clean up.)

I feel like its inevitable at this point. This ongoing thread is like an incubator, used to be so cool to see the occasional poster who's in this or that band... now you see more and more of doomers hooking each other up with shows, stopping in to chill when they roll through town, hooking up merch and vinyls and pedals and amps, sharing gear and knowledge and just bein good dudes. Even for me personally, just chillin around here was the extra motivation, the extra kick in the pants, to keep up the search and find a band and get our act together and now here we are finally playing our first show before the end of the year, which was our initial goal in August. I can't tell you how many times since my old band broke up that I've been frustrating with playing music and fitting it into the rest of my life and making it work that I've considered hanging up the towel. But seeing other guys here struggle in building a band or making shows happen or what have you has been almost a peer motivator for me to keep on keepin on.
Long story short, this thread delivers
^ +1, Toast. That was our goal too. I want this band to open the shows we would want to see. (I know there are a handful of Doom bands in Denver that are probably already fitting this bill.
But not really any Stoner bands... We can use the 70's influenced hard rock to be a little different that what most other Denver bands are doing. (which is pretty much our direct competition right now for getting on shows)
There is another band in town that goes as a "doom" band. But in my mind they are more black crust like Amebix. Some doomy guitar parts, some D-beat parts. Like I have echoed before, in this genre you are either more metal influenced or more rock influenced.
Example, I will say Sam's band, Monobrow is more heavy rock influenced than metal influenced. I would put Ron's band Bongripper under the "this band is more metal" doom category. I don't really like trying to categorize, but I think that is what makes a Stoner Rock band vs a Doom Metal band, even though we use the terms as synonyms.

Seeing all this great talent here trying to make it makes me hopeful that things will pay off. I've been playing music most of my life now but just in the past couple years have I decided to go "all in" and make it such a priority. I miss the stage, the crappy venues, the people in the crowd with so many holes through them they probably sink in water... here's looking at 2013.
The construction going on immediately outside my office door is enough to make me murder someone.
I was hoping my band would start gigging before the end of the year, but that dream is slowly melting away. The others dont seem as motivated to get out of the basement quite yet. Im running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to find a show or set one up, and it seems they arent doing anything to get us out of the basement besides saying it will happen soon.
I guess ill need to talk to them because once January hits, I'm going back to school and much of my free time will be gone, so band time may take a hit, which means my ability to do shows is lessened. So i wanted to get out there and gig now, so when summer hits and im finally 21, another problem...being 20 is like living in limbo, nothing happens and waiting until youre 21 is boring me to death... we already have some momentum. Theres still time, hopefully we can book a show somewhere.
I guess ill need to talk to them because once January hits, I'm going back to school and much of my free time will be gone, so band time may take a hit, which means my ability to do shows is lessened. Sam and I had discussed awhile back about the possibility of doing some TB shows, where the host bands puts everyone up or at least helps them find a cheap place to stay.
Yeah, that under age thing is a bitch. I remember trying to get in to see Nebula on one of their early tours. I knew the guy running sound at the club and he said he'd get me in. Well he pulled a no-call, no-show that day and I was **** out of luck. I did run into the Nebula guys outside and chatted to them for a bit. 3 years later I saw them and they crashed at my house after the show so it worked out eventually.
BTW, Muench I'm trying to put a show in Madison together right now, I'll give you a heads up if it works out. I work with one of the venue owners so I'm fairly optimistic.
Well, if any of you guys are lucky enough to be in Colorado, but unlucky enough to be in the Springs
, I'm happy to do what I can to put people up. We have 2 air matresses, a day bed with a pull out, a spare room and an unfinished basement we can offer up as rooms. Only problem is if you don't like a crying baby, you may want to hit the basement. I'll do what I can to extend the southern hospitality. You might even get my famous vegetarian spicy breakfast consisting of homefries, eggs scramblexd with sauteed mushrrom and faux spicy sausage, served with veg green chili and melted cheeses. It is awesome.
I'm in the Harrisburg/Lancaster area of PA. If all goes well my band, one ton buzzard, should be ready for shows by early next year.
So if anyone wants to split some shows just let me know and maybe we can hook something up
