Just got back from a sludgey doom jam. The guitarist kids riffs are cool and he's into breaking up the heavy with trippy jam sections. He also enjoyed my farting around bass lines. Which makes me happy.
I don't know how long I can do 3 projects. But it fills my weekend with music and really makes me want to practice.
Psych guys want to gig asap.
Now I want a semi hollow. But the Ric will work great.

Busy. Fixed my fence, both cars, dog training, nephew's b-day party, just so much. My wife is both annoyed and pleased that I was able to fix our cars myself. Her family isn't mechanically inclined, so they always pay for others to do a lot of pretty basic stuff. Mechanics wanted $1300 to fix only her car. I fixed both for about $275. She's annoyed that they price it so high. I'm just like, "Yeah, that's why you do it yourself when you can."

Got Sunnbass's Swollen Pickle as well. Reminds me very much of the Pharaoh. (Obviously, both muffs!). May have shortened my fuzz quests if I'd have gotten one sooner, but I seem to prefer fuzzy guitar to fuzzy bass. Ah, well, still sounds great, and I haven't even messed with internal pots!

Also, local dude said he can add a volume pot to each of myFX25Bs for a total of $30. Doesn't even have to drill a hole or anything (not sure how that will work!). Stoked.

All in all a great weekend.

Microphonics? The metal covers might be vibrating based on the sound waves, and generating more sounds. Does it stop if you put pressure on the cover to stop it moving? I know with metal-covered pickups (les paul) they have to put some wax in there to keep the pickup covers from vibrating and making noise.

I'm going to try adding some shelf liner to see if that helps with the vibrations.

Was listening today to the Vinyl master ref for the the new Prayer Flags record. Currently referencing the digital versions of the same master for iTunes and stuff. It occurs to me that during the course of recording that record, which wound up taking over two years, that I played 5 different basses (T-40, Drake, Pbass, First Act, Gibson G3). I honestly don't remember which bass I played on every song, with a couple exceptions. The T-40 is unmistakable. Not sure why I sold it. Awesome bass. Used a few different pres and mic setups too. Makes a strong case that it's the player at least as much as the gear.

I'm pretty convinced that I will probably be uninterested in most fuzzes without a clean blend. I just tend to like gainier and brighter fuzz sounds and usually that kills the low end.

Since Trailer Park Boys was brought up yesterday, anyone see the Australian TPB knock-off called Housos? Not sure if it is an homage or a rip off as they even call their housing authority the Sunnyvale Housing Authority. I watched the first episode on Netflix last night. It's like they are trying to hard, but their were some chuckles. Plus I just like seeing films based in other countries just to get a little vibe of the country.

I tend to agree. I designedInvalid Link Removedfor that very purpose.

This new fuzz proto has some gnarly proprietary tricks up it's sleeve that remedy lots of those issues. Can have lots of bright fuzz over a still huge low end. Or the low end can be dialed back via the "bass" knob. The controls are very atypically implemented within the ciruit. Wish I could go into detail, but I've been told to keep it heavily under wraps. He even coats the boards with epoxy to protect the circuit. I can attest it's ground-up a unique design, not based 80% off of something else like 90%+ of pedals today. I can say it's Germanium tranny based, Dale metal film resistors, wima Polypropylene caps, and silent switching as well. This guy has built radio gear that was used on the F117 stealth fighters. Worked for a military contractor for years. He's quite the guy. Apparently Mark Tremonti (blarf) got a hold of one of his earlier amps and prefers it to his collection of Dumbles, Trainwrecks, etc. Was in a Guitar Player mag even. Pretty neat.
