Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Did Ampeg change anything internally to the SVT-III Pro when they switched to the later 1990's logo/graphics? Mine is an old school early '90s version and bang for buck, it's all around the best sounding head I own, out of the 5 other heads I got.

Just wanted to drop this here:
the shape of things to come, by Monoliths and Dimensions

My band's first full length is finally out, I've yet to do some promotion with YT channels and blogs, but I thought maybe you might want to check it out. It's free, too.

It's not full-on doom, more like a hybrid of ambient, doom and some jazz thrown in? There's at least one Fusion-era Miles Davis inspired piano solo in there on side B.

There's some things I might do differently if I were to rerecord this, but I think that's how we all feel with some of our musical efforts.
Dude that is a tidy Fn' masterpiece you have created.

I feel honored that you think so. I wasn't quite sure whether people would find this to be boring as heck, too unmusical (like the second half of Side B), or not 'metal' enough.

Thanks, it means a lot to me.
Dude I totally feel that, one may require patience but for me its right up my alley way. You sound like you might dig this duo from Canada. What a show you guy's could put on together:bassist:

Zaum are pretty rad. From Moncton about an hours from where I live. Seen them live a couple times and its always been entertaining . Kyle (I think) recorded one of my old bands demos in his basement years ago - rad guy.

seen them twice. the second time we actually opened for them. it was a really fun show, probably the best set we ever played. The guys from Zaum were great, hope to organize something with them for an east coast "tour" at some point.

It's nice to hear something refreshing and original which unfortunately is rare in this genre and sometimes i feel even gets penalized. so many boring doom and stoner bands out there. it's getting tiresome and a little sad.

keep it up

So a former drummer from a no-longer-together band emailed me to see if I want to try out for a thing he's auditioning for. It's some kinda bluuuoooz/R&B/funk/southern rock thing intended to play high end gigs, built around a (supposedly) very capable female singer(s). Sounds like some corporate event cover band horsesheeeit based on the little info he gave me. My knee jerk reaction is to say forget it, pal.

For some reason, I find I'm on the fence about it. I think I'll probably dislike the music, but not necessarily hate it. The drummer is very good, and we locked up great together....I assume the other people will play at a similar level. I've never played as a hired gun in a for-hire band for actual pay. I could do it, but I've always gone with original bands for as long as I've played. Like someone posted here in the past, I didn't pick up a bass to make people dance, and I kind of feel the same way. But after my last band went into a coma and then experiencing a so-so attempt at revival last week, PLUS the constant, year after year void of anything remotely cool going on in my area..........I am feeling a little desperate.

What should a stoner/doomer do?

You can always try out and see how it feels?
