Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I guess it's more that they cancelled to avoid having to get another toe amputated. My band mate was out with him last night in Oregon; he looks like he's in pain and moving badly... but the hope is to prevent further damage by taking it easy. FWIW. makes me sad to think his health may take him off the road for good. Yeesh. In partial response to that, I stocked up on salad stuff this week and taking some time off from the booze. He's only 4 years older than me; i gotta get my sheeet together!
OMG! he is only 46! That is a well worn 46 if I've ever seen it. He is only 2 years older than me, and while I'm no Greek statue, I'm definitely holding it together better than he is.
The life of a musician is no joke (I think you know that.) Trying to keep the rock n roll lifestyle going when you have something like diabetes is a game of Russian Roulette. I hope he takes the risks seriously.
I'm going to be a greedy jerk and say that I hope he doesn't stop recording. I hope The Sciences was just an appetizer for more to come.

So I suppose this is becoming a legit genre now, there's also Tengger Cavalry. Next we'll see another Mongolian metal band fronted by an attractive Mongolian. She'll be deemed a poser because she is a former model.

I actually found Tengger Calvary awhile ago, and didn't hate it. I was looking for the most ridiculous idea I could find in music to make fun of kpop and "Mongolian metal" seemed to be the most implausible.

I was wrong. It's not my style, but it's not bad either.

Hu Band, on the other hand, totally sells me. If the whole album sounds like that, I'll dig into my pocket.

Also, in a world outlandish-but-kinda-really-cool, there's Bloodywood, which is self-described "Punjabi Metal."

Yeah, he's definitely gone at it hard. I'm guessing his hard living has contributed greatly to where he is today. Hopefully he can take care of himself and get back on his feet, literally. I love the guy.
When I'm on the road, I rarely take part in the "rock n roll" lifestyle in terms of drinking, druggin, and partyin. However the physical demand, little sleep, long drives, and poor nourishment parts are pretty unavoidable. Takes it out of you for sure, so Im glad he's resting up. I couldn't live with the thought of never seeing Sleep of HoF again.

I can't like this enough! Absolutely awesome. Thx for sharing it.
It's like stoner Apocolyptica

I'd really love to see him live but I'd understand if he gave up touring.
It just sucks to have to give up touring at 46. The guys in Sabbath are 70 or close to it and just called it quits.
On the other hand, the money is so bad that I would be surprised if they dialed it back. Sleep doesn't have a crazy touring schedule, but HoF does fairly regular long-haul touring. While both bands are at the top of their particular hills, we all know that hill isn't particularly tall. Pike isn't rolling in top dollar tour buses, private planes, and has crazy riders that get him clean, healthy accommodations. They aren't getting Metallica, GnR money. It is hard to be healthy on the road when you are in good shape.

Also, since we're all about the HM2 for the last couple pages...

The SRC Edgelord.

It's certainly a unique looking pedal. I dunno what was going on with the pattern, but I'm pretty sure I'll never confuse it with any other HM2. I kinda like the distinct lack of Satany sort of nonsense about it, it's just kinda cheerful and... I don't even know what you call that... round plaid? The yellowy-orange LED's a nice change from eyeblinding blue, too.

It's been 20 years since my dog peed on mine and I stuck it in a box in the garage, so I don't really remember what it sounds like. I also probably just turned everything to 10, anyways. I could only play with it briefly at volume (neighbours), but it sounds pretty good into my solid state amp with the amp's OD engaged. I've been using the low/high at like 9 and 3, which is supposed to be GC Green's settings from Godflesh, and it's not as chunky as the fuzz I've been using previously.

I was able to find the Reverb page where builder sold it in 11/17.

I know some of you are into interior shots:

It this some kind of tiny little trim pot?

To be clear, I'm not claiming he's hung them up for good. I don't believe he has or will, if he can help it. just hoping, like you, that he doesn't. When I saw them on Blessed Black Wings tour it changed me for life. He's made amazing albums despite laboring in underground obscurity for decades. He's the king of the metal underground, as far as Im concerned, and I hope like hell he gets well and kills it for another decade.

I'd guess it'd be for the lower forward bias V of them... The tend be lower than most Si diodes but similar in range to some of the Ge diodes... plus the whole obtainable and somewhat common thing.

I ended up arranging them in such a fashion that overall its the least clipped setting outside of no clipping. The idea here is that there is a extreme asymmetry where I only use the Shottcky diodes to clip one side of the AC waveform.

Gotcha! I've tossed that idea around, I'll have to explore it more in the future.

Also, if you do a run of HM2 boards, I'll take one!

I don't think those guys can afford to hang it up for good, IIRC they're still like manual labourers/construction guys in "real life."

If thats the case I really hope he recovers quickly. The trades beat people up and it takes a massive toll on the body after a while.

just say no to booze kids.

stick to weed if you have to
My theory has always been more about moderation.
A little booze never hurt anyone. A little pot, acid, coke, speed, you know...keep it fun and light.
I don't think there is such a thing as "a little heroine." Maybe I'm wrong about that. [shrug]
