Also today is new cheap used cab day I guess.

It works, sounds decent and I can carry it up the stairs to my apartment. Not bad for a hundred.

Hey Guys,

I got to fool around at my local GC with a Bass Big Muff. I really like the versatility and the 3 position switch for bass boost and dry. You guys have been a godsend for me, so do any of y'all have any experience with this pedal? Especially with running a Dry signal out and bi-amping?

In other news, it sounded incredible through the Ampeg v4B and 2x12 that would have gone home with me if I had a spare $1500...

Do it! That series of cab seems to have gone out of vogue (and was never their top-of-the-line offering anyway). I see them in plenty of configurations fairly often, usually for about the $100 you paid.

I briefly had a Backline 600 amp and Backline 410. No complaints, though a bit heavy compared to my Neo cabs. Only got rid of them because I found a sweet deal on a 400RB-IV and Neo 410 dirt cheap.

Lots of muff love round these parts. I have a muff clone that I've been using and I love (I gotta mod it once I get down with my current batch of pedals...) A few others here have various flavors of muffs on their boards.
Did you try the bass big muff deluxe or the regular BBM? I didn't fall in love with either but I liked the deluxe more than the BBM so you maybe give that one a try too?

It was the regular BBM, not the deluxe. I was sold on it mostly due to it being simple, but versatile. It also sounded much better and was easier to control than the sim in my modeling amp. However, I didn't buy it due to saving up to see Tool in a few weeks...

I have the deluxe, which adds this filter thingy and a clean blend. Bi amped I would think it would sound killer. The muff was my dirt of choice before I fell inder the Superfuzz's spell. Biamped, honestly, imo all dirt and fuzz sound monolithic!

About muffs: there are TONS of clones. From my lurking around here, it seems that most people actually prefer a clone of some sort to the original, unless you happen to get one of the rarer sought-after models. Now, there’s nothing necessarily wrong with the modern EHX Muffs, but there are better options to most people’s tastes (at least on this thread and forum in general). I have heard good things about the most recent Russian Muff re-issue EHX put out a while back, but have no direct experience.

What sort of tone are you going for? That will help in finding the right version or clone you’re looking for. My go-to Muff is the Pharaoh Supreme for its sheer versatility and no loss of low end.

I had the Bass Big Muff and Deluxe Bass Big Muff in the past, and while they both were fine, neither wowed me long term like my Pharaoh has. But it’s all in the tone you want. Do you want creamy, heavy, gritty, glitchy, etc.? I am by no means an expert on the circuit here, but I have tried a few and my search ended with the Pharaoh.

Others to consider:
Pharaoh (and Supreme version)
Tall Font Russian
Supercollider (the ‘71 version is my 2nd preference on guitar, and almost as good to my ears as the pharaoh Supreme on bass)
EHX Russian Muff Reissue
Swollen Pickle
Russian Pickle
Blue Beard
Musket (seems to have gone out of favor, but had a big following)
BYOC Large Beaver

Those are the ones that quickly come to mind. There literally dozens of other clones readily available, I’m sure. Likely hundreds of clones overall.

i believe most of the tube heads still require a speaker load even with the built in DI. I see alot of love for the two notes load boxes, of course uas load box and boss just released one and they are all well loved. Im not sure if the two notes can handle a 300 watt tube amp but the other two for sure cant. I think youll find that most people dont use a DI of a bass tube amp due to load boxes not handling much more than 100 watts.

But seriously, as someone pointed out the clones seem to be more popular than the OG models. I am guilty as well. I had a black Russian for a while, but every used it. I tried using a Supercollider, a Pickle Pie B, and a Hail Satan Deluxe and just never cared for where I ended up in the mix. I have a Grey Stache collecting dust in my closet now.
My personal take is that unless you want to be just guitar support, or replacing a guitar, you need a blend of some kind. Otherwise you vanish in the mix. Maybe that is what some people want.
I liked the Supercollider and Grey Stache the most. I also like the Team Awesome Fuzz Machine. Different clipping circuit than a Muff, but the blend is phenomenal.

I really find that the blend is all about how the circuit is made. Some fuzzes don’t need one, but others, based on the same circuit, do! Follow your ears, as always.
