I am partial to the Model T sound. It's more fit for drone stuff to my ears. The beta feels more punchy and direct, which is great in a lot of cases but it's not quite my pick. Otherwise I'd be all over the Hiblish, I bet. Seems like the way to go for a beta sound. Love that bubbly cartoon-ish style on the artwork as well! Doomy gloomy boxes can look absolutely splendid but it's nice with some variety :)

Wow. That is a super cool rig. Very envious. Had a chance to play through a really nice one after a recent recap, and it was amazing.

I think it depends on what your future plans are for playing. Unless I had very nice custom fit cases, I wouldn't want to tour with the Sunn. We used to tour with vintage V4's (in cases) and the old amps just don't seem to hold up as well. Also, depending on the venues you're playing, you might not have the headroom you need with a 120w bass amp. If you're not in need of the cash, Id keep that meatsmoke pre. They are pretty hard to come by, they sound great, and you can plug it into whatever monster power amp you might need... or turn a small amp into a gnarly beast. I wish I had one in the arsenal.

Sidenote:
Grant from In The Company Of Serpents now plays two meatsmoke pres through 2 ampeg SVT CL and a third rig for clean guitar. It's shaging epic, or it was when I last saw them live (awhile ago now)

Every time I've seen them I've been blown away by how much sound just the two guys make. That said, I was happy with the addition of bass to the lineup (though I've only seen them in that configuration once).

I agree. Ben on bass has added another level. He's also a good songwriter so I think it's really expanded the band in multiple ways. I still haven't listened to the new record. I watched their live stream release show which was cool, but I need to spin the vinyl through the speakers to fully experience the new material.
Was excited to see them land on Decibels top 40 list with other Denver metallers Of Feather And Bone!

I like the new record a lot, and "The Fool's Journey" is easily one of my favorite songs of the year. I'm working on going through the big pile of 2020 music I bought to come up with my own year-end list...

Honestly it's hard to find all that many good demos of the actual amps on YouTube. So many guitarists appropriating our amplifiers! That said, here's a video from the company I brought up showcasing the pre-amps. The quality isn't the best, but it does do a fair job of highlighting the differences between the two models. They seem to have demos of virtually everything they make, with Sunn pre-amp replicas being the vast majority of it.

That looks like it could be interesting, but I can't run on 110V. Or with $300 + import fees without even a demo :P

It really lets the bass do the talking. I really like the behavior of the power amp. The preamp does what it does. Really not going to do anything drastic preamp-wise to effect the tone of the bass. I dig it. It's like a big transparent tube amp.
