And I've always thought that if someone's relationship is truly in a state where they feel the need to lie to their partner about something they care about, or are scared about some kind of emotional retaliation, shouldn't that be a sure sign the relationship has serious problems?
On an unrelated note, I've decided to paint the fEARful I'm building green! There was a glitter green that caught my eye and I seriously considered it, but then the thought of glitter flaking off all over the place immediately put an end to that notion.

Definitely. My wife doesn't always understand my gear obsession, but she's well aware, and as long as we can pay the bills and save a bit, she doesn't care. (She's always happy when I sell some stuff too!) I always make sure I get a decent deal on the things I buy, and keep it in great shape. And when I don't need it anymore, I rarely lose any money, or maybe just a few bucks, and often make a few bucks (again, the deals portion of my spending is important to me). I realize that my gear is frivolous in the grand scheme of things, and act accordingly.
Basically, step 1 of a (healthy) relationship is honesty. If you're not honest with someone, they don't even know the real you. And that doesn't bode well.
On the gear front I've really been trying to improve technique on both bass and guitar. Definitely improved my guitar picking technique this week after some focused practice. I've also put some rounds on two basses for different tones. I've found that for whatever reason, I don't like my Rat on rounds as much. (Do I need another muff?) My other dirt sounds different, but great on both flats and rounds.
I've also "Stormtrooper'd" my white Ibanez SRX2EX2. It's a fairly basic four string, but I've recently come to love the SRX line and this one was in immaculate shape for dirt cheap. White bass with all black hardware, and Black Beauty strings. May put a Star Wars decal on or something because I'm a dork. Or maybe I'm going to have a custom carbon fiber pickguard made for it. That should look cool.
I've also ordered a complementary RG2EX2 guitar with matching color scheme. Will likely upgrade the pickups, and do similar aesthetic upgrades to the guitar and bass. You know, a matching set. Only issue is that the seller hasn't received payment yet (only takes Postal Money Orders for shipped items, and this is about 500 miles away give or take). Waiting on USPS to deliver the mail to him, and it's been about a week. Internet searches say 6 days is typical for regular mail, so we're in the normal window, but I'm impatient these days! And who knows - I know USPS has had numerous COVID related delays. Anyway, hopefully I'll have news by Thanksgiving and have an extra thing to be thankful for!

This. And communication. I get soooo annoyed when watch a movie or TV show and the entire freaking plot could be avoided if people just talked to each other.

I've heard of a rule on this forum. It's kinda like schrodingers cat. As long as there are no pictures you both have and haven't done the thing you're talking about.
Talking about my own gear obsession. I decided on a Bass VI variant. The Harley Benton Guitarbass is crazy expensive fo what the reviews say it is. So, as soon as I have sold something off, it will enter my home. I just need to find the right replacement strings.
Could go either way. Are you bi-amping, or using a crossover? An efficient 212 with enough watts may overpower the 15. With the ability to adjust levels independently, it could work very well.
Fair enough, but I'm just too lazy to do this. I rarely upload pictures because I find it inconvenient. Maybe when it's all done and I have something to be "proud of" besides simply changing strings and setting it up.
You're also right on the muff... anybody know a relatively affordable muff that can do MOSFET tones like the Pharaoh Supreme? I've thought of trying another Swollen Pickle...
Both my preamp and power amp have crossovers, so I'm covered there. I can also adjust volume independently on the power amp so I'm covered there too...hopefully.
Alright, alright. I'll bite. Best mass-produced and readily available muffs. Go. Looking for lower gain distortion tones with a bit of bite and clarity, and plenty of bottom end. Quick round up of ones I've had, and what I recall. Not opposed to re-trying some, but don't want or need to go down a rabbit hole or do boutique. This fuzz will live on my secondary board, so I don't necessarily want it to sound exactly the same as my Pharaoh, but in the same ballpark. If I really wanted to spend tons of cash, I'd just get another Pharaoh Supreme...
Swollen Pickle - good range, but ultimately too fizzy for me.
Russian Pickle - my favorite from what I recall. Don't remember why I got rid of it, but it beat the Swollen Pickle for my needs. Towards the top of my list right now.
Bass Big Muff - volume loss, one setting unusable, standard issues with the circuit. Not too interested, unless someone can change my mind.
Bass Big Muff Deluxe - enjoyed the filter portion, but ultimately, tone wasn't as good as I wanted. Also not very interested.
MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe - first "real" fuzz. Don't think it's a muff though. Remember liking it, and thinking the independent volumes were good. Don't remember why I got rid of it, but I've learned TONS since then, so it may work. Thinking I may be able to do something similar to my Pharaoh in that I can set the tone low, and blend in a lot of clean (highs on the Pharaoh) to retain clarity and definition. Readily available and often cheap, so this may happen.
That's about it. I've heard good things about the Russian Reissue EHX has done recently, but haven't heard one in person. I do like their OCD pedal on guitar, so there's that. So, what you got? $100 or so. Again, looking for mass-produced and readily available. Don't want to spend on boutique unless it's a screaming deal. I think I'm ready... (I'm probably not.)

You're right on the muff. The search has begun.
I hate when movies mention one thing once, and then it just takes over and ruins the build up. For instance, my wife and I watched The Departed the other day. Great build up, setting the tone for the whole end to just be as tense as possible. And then, at the end, stuff that you have no way of knowing about happens. Just ruins the vibe to me and feels like a cheap way to be "creative". Play out the plot you started with! It's not a "twist ending", it's just bad writing in my opinion. It's tougher (and more rewarding to the story) to write yourself out of the hole you've put your characters in than to go and have some Deus Ex Machina stuff happening to end the film. Of course, we're talking dramas here. I'm all for weirdness and non sequitur in comedy.
Give it tons of coats of clear coat, with sanding in-between and polishing compound, etc. That'll seal the flakes in.
ETA: I loves glitter finishes. When I am emperor of the world all cars will have glitter finishes to rival bass boats or low riders.
First coat of paint on the cab. I'm going to let it sit for a couple days and then decide if I want to add another coat or just go straight to the clear coat.
@kleinenenten don't get me started on The Departed. So overrated. I thought it was mediocre at best.
Agreed. I don’t watch much serious stuff because I can’t enjoy it. So much is such a paint by number thing that I see the ending a mile away, and the others are just trying so hard they throw a “twist” that makes no sense and feels cheap. Give me crazy comedy, especially these days when life itself is plenty serious enough.
I have absolutely nothing against serious movies, I just thought The Departed was mediocre (and not "mediocre compared to Scorcese's other movies"...mediocre compared to the average big budget movie).
To your point though, a comedy classic (imo) that doesn't get talked about enough: Summer School (1987) - IMDb If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend you seek it out.
Don’t get me wrong - I LOVE some serious films. But don’t build up to one thing just to switch to another with a flimsy pretext. While I understand in some situations his may be realistic, I don’t watch movies for pure realism. I want an escape of sorts. If I want reality, I’ll just go live it. No need to watch a movie for that. I have not heard of that film. I’ll see if I can track it down.
I think I'll have to agree with @YawningJorin on this one. The BBC radio 1 recording of State of non-return in particular really gives me goosebumps. He swings from one side of the tonal pendulum to the other so seamlessly. Lately I've been listening to Rays of the sun/to the shrine builder a lot though.
I wanted to take my time with this. For what I think of as gnarly, and limiting myself to just Om, I'd say On the Mountain at Dawn closely followed by Thebes (the latter half of it) and Unitive Knowledge. It's amazing how many great tones Al has. I can't think of another bass player that has as many tones that are so good. My all time favorite bass tone is probably Chris Squire circa Fragile, but he didn't have as many different tones I love like Al does.
Note that "gnarliest" doesn't necessarily mean my favorite. If I had to pick my favorite Al bass tone that would take a while to figure out.
The term boomer just exposes those using it for the uninformed hipsters they are. Baby Boomers were born between 46 and 64. A time when they united states was rebuilding from the war, recovering from economic depression, and going through some seriously heavy societal issues. Some of these people started and supported cultural revolutions like the civil rights movement. When the term is used, it refers to people who are older than the ignoramus that is using it... simply because they doesn't like having their lack of perspective, experience, or knowledge exposed. I'm not a "boomer", but I sure as hell respect people that faced tougher times and are more knowledgeable than I.
