A Russian model is definitely the way to go for bass if you ask me. My impression of demos was that the EHX sounded a little bit better than the pickle, but it was a miniscule difference.
The accurate use of adjectives isn't name calling. "Boomer" is name calling because it's demeaning and inaccurate. These are appropriate labels for people whom "name call". But I digress. I'll remove my offensive post.
EDIT: Sorry, I guess my time to remove the post has lapsed. In the future, I'll refrain from using colorful words when showing my distaste for people who discriminate on the grounds of age.

Had the reissue EHX Russian, settled finally for the Russian Pickle. It sound way better for me for some reason. It has a bit less gain and it's not so loud, but just sounds better.

The term "boomer" is not derogatory per se, I think... And I understand how it was used here.
But that "Ok boomer" catchphrase, which is one of the stupidest, meanest things that have been plaguing the internet in the last few years, made it unsufferable.

Like where your mind is at. Is the power section the same as the 135w bassmen ten? I've been wondering if that would be the better one to go with than finding a 100w non ultralinear one.
Russian pickle, or maybe the op amp reissue would be my thoughts. I've wondered how the ibanez OD850 (I think it's basically a muff) compares. The op amp version sure will cut through a mix.
Honestly it's hard to find all that many good demos of the actual amps on YouTube. So many guitarists appropriating our amplifiers! That said, here's a video from the company I brought up showcasing the pre-amps. The quality isn't the best, but it does do a fair job of highlighting the differences between the two models. They seem to have demos of virtually everything they make, with Sunn pre-amp replicas being the vast majority of it.
That looks like it could be interesting, but I can't run on 110V. Or with $300 + import fees without even a demo

EDIT: Sorry, I went back a few pages and I see that someone was using the term to describe jokes that they felt were outdated or bad. I was reacting to the trend or fad of discriminating against someone because of their age, and not what was written/posted here.... So, I sincerely apologize to those of you who felt I called them names. It was not directed to you, but rather to people who support ageism. I've asked the moderators to remove my post.

It's all good. I agree that treating baby boomers as a homogeneous group to ridicule and blame is pretty shoddy. If anything, it does a service to the people who brought us the current western economic struggles by deflecting blame from what is just an age group.
This looks very cool. Kind of leaning towards solid state in the end though. Listening to the demos (they're further down on that page), it's not doing much more than what I already have and I'm thinking what I'm really looking for is either the right combination of stacking, or an altered variant of the circuit that pushes more of what I want.
Idiotbox's stuff is pretty great, especially for the price. They probably offer the best overall bang for your buck of any pedal builder out there, not including Joyo and other offshore knockoff brands. Their Dungeon Master is also great, and if you're okay with spending a little more on what is essentially two pedals in one the MK Drive is insane.
@Novarocker yes. one thing to keep in mind with the bassman 135 is that they use global negative feedback which doesn't generally sound great with ultralinear (which itself is sort of local negative feedback, hence more output with lower distortion). removing that negative feedback and maybe changing the presence control to more of a vox cut control would probably sound a lot better
I'm thinking more along the lines of a hiwatt-type preamp instead of the fender/Marshall for the "clean" side as I've never been able to get on with the traditional tmb tone stack (i love fender-type amps using the James tone stack instead)

Good picks! I agree, it's really cool how Al has evolved his tone over the years, and come up with so many great sounds. The only "era" of his tone I don't like is the period where he was using reissue SVTs and Portaflex heads in his live rig. I saw one Om gig with that setup, and his distortion sounded really bad compared to other shows where he had vintage SVTs and Oranges.
I think I actually prefer his Orange tone over the Green Matamp. There are some live bootlegs from 92-94 that are probably Al's gnarliest sounds ever- vintage Orange amps pushed to the brink of death.
Had the Blower Box years ago. Too fizzy. Isn't the Landphil a modded Blower Box?
