That's what my brain tells me too. Just wondering if anybody had any direct experience. I've had the Russian Pickle, and it was likely my favorite mass-produced Muff, but I've never tried the EHX Reissue.

The newer EHX Muffs all sound crummy to me. You can probably find a used Earthquaker Hoof for a decent price (or even better, a Cloven Hoof).
The Hoof has popped up in my search recently, and the price isn't too bad, especially used. The Cloven Hoof, however, sounds too gainy for me. I'd definitely prefer smoother tones.
I'm also trying to make my Iron Pig work for my roundwound equipped basses too. Not spending money unnecessarily is always a good idea. Maybe trade some other gear I have for a muff or something. Who knows. I'm trying to just double down on productivity lately, so random gear searches may decrease as a result.
On a related note, my tablet died this morning, and I'm going to try to go without one for a while and see how I like it. Use the computer only for online stuff (my phone isn't exactly optimal either, which is fine and on purpose). Will likely be posting less here on TB. And maybe even doing this thing called "playing bass". Any of you fine folks ever hear of such a thing?
The landphil is a blower box with a BBE maximizer added basically, smooths it out a bit. I sadly bought it after my band recorded or I'd share clips since there aren't many online. The Blackout is a parallel double-muff and the hobo santa fuzz is a modded russian muff tho and that would be in your price range with a muff style circuit with the sale going on.
I really like the Idiotbox stuff and he does a lot of cool sales so I try to bring them up a lot.
I want the MK Drive and No Moon but we are saving for a house and I'm old enough to be patient enough to know I'll have them soon. Soon.
But yeah I love the Idiotbox stuff's quality and with the sales he runs the pricing seems very fair. I'd strongly encourage everybody to consider buying from them. I was thinking of getting a dungeon master but I have a MIJ HM2 which I bought for $40 at the same time as a MIT FZ2 for $40 too, one of my greatest craigslist purchases. I waffle on selling those a lot lately. Trying to get a bunch of different flavors of distortion you know.
I A/Bed them extensively, and the Cloven is undoubtedly superior for bass. More headroom, more low end extension.
Fuzzrocious Grey Stache is another great bass Muff that can be found for relatively cheap too.
Really? My ears say differently, but of course, we're talking Youtube videos, so who knows? I'll have to see if I can find one/both of them to demo. The Grey Stache is one that I don't hear about often, but was at the top of my initial Muff search years ago. How's that circuit aged compared to others?
GS is excellent. It has the all-important mid control that lets you dial out the scoop inherent to the Muff tone stack. I find that the Muffs that don’t have adjustable mids get totally lost in a mix.
I always hear this, but have never really used one WITH a mids control except the Supercollider '71. It's my #2 Muff for guitar, behind - you guessed it - the Pharaoh Supreme. I found it a bit too fizzy on bass, which is my most common complaint for any bass dirt. That's my main concern with the Hoof variants, actually. Stache demos, here I come...
FWIW, the Stache beat all the Hoof variants (for my taste, anyway).
SolidGoldFX Imperial is another great Muff variant if you can find one.
So. Many. Muffs. Thankfully, they're all fairly cheap, even boutique. Still, going to try and go mass-produced for my pocketbook's sake, and definitely going to tweak the Iron Pig (yes, I realize it's a Rat and not a Muff) more for my roundwound basses. I feel like the tone's gotta be there with all the versatility that has. And that's the cheapest option for sure!
To me that's the sound a slightly unscrewed cap on a bottle of a carbonated drink. So a trebly but not necessarily unpleasant, noisy sound
Yeah fizzy to me isn't necessarily ice pick highs, could even be darker overall. But definitely in the buzzy spectrum, just much higher frequencies.

Eye the Tide is by far my favorite of their albums.
I’ve really like the ehx reissues, particularly the green, I’ve played. I will qualify that by saying I’m a hand built mojo denialist. The kitrae page is great. Could be a little easier to navigate, but soooo much information.
Really dig the calm before the storm and how it sounded like a major key or mode there of instead of a minor key. It hits pretty heavy throughout when it comes in with the dirt, all while still having a good spacy vibe.
@themarshall, nothing wrong with that. If it sounds good, I am all for getting it cheap or otherwise. A bunch of mass produced stuff is awesome. It is nice to support small operations too if I can afford it.
