Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

This thread is massive... would be crazy to try read it all.

Regarding the Matamp GT200 stopped working two times. It worked again both times we restarted it. And the last day it didn't stop at all.

It could VERY much so be we over heated it, or it got to some limit. Since we cranked it so Fkn loud. It was totally wild. Will have a practice now, and see what will happen on much lower volumes.

Its the best bass sound I have ever had. So I really wish it lasts for a super long time.

I got it used, and its 12 years old. Had two owners previous. God knows what its been through

I love golf, but won’t dog anyone for their like or dislike of the game. And a game it is. I refuse to call an activity that you can smoke and drink while doing a “sport”.

"There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games."
-Probably not Ernest Hemingway, but maybe.

I don't really think that "games" are something lesser than "sports", but there's a qualitative difference. Those three activities aren't games, it's really kind of easy to end up dead doing any of them. And yeah, the one that distracts myself from music is motor racing. The number of games that can distract me is almost limitless. :D

Yes but if one did they'd probably leave with a wealth of knowledge regarding pedals. This thread has some of the most helpful pedalheads on the internet IMO.

That's just this one too, I've never even looked at the 89 other parts that are apparently out there.

Anyone been here since stoner/doom part 1?

I LOVE my Pharaoh Supreme. Best fuzz I've ever played.

I recently bought a Swollen Pickle clone for dirt cheap since I love my Pickle so much. I'll say this - I think something's wrong/different with it, but I love it. I instantly got a different tone from it, but it's amazing. I've spent hours trying to get that same tone from my original SP, but haven't quite gotten there yet. Either way, I may just need both... And my Pharaoh Supreme...

I got a MKIIs Swollen Pickle recently. It's a tough one to figure out initially, but I've come to really like it. It's certainly one of the most versatile Big Muffs out there. It can be set for massive low end, so it's a good choice for doom fuzz.

Bluebeard is still the fuzz champ for me, but I have high hopes for the Pickle if I can really dial it in.

I hear nothing but good things about the Bluebeard, but given their seeming rarity and price, I doubt I'll ever be able to justify one.

And the Swollen Pickle is amazing. Takes some time to figure out, but rewards patience. I've found so many tones in that fuzz. That's why I wanted another - to keep one on my "permanent" settings, and experiment with the other.

I love fuzz pedals! Just got the Minotaur Swamp Lord, and Evil Eye. The Evil Eye is just one volume knob.

My favorites would be Swamp Lord, and Pharao.
I love fuzz so much on bass that I have them as always on. But just one at a time. When recording I still can't let go of them, and use them there aswell. But with distorted guitars aswell, its really easy to get lost in the mix. Especially when following what the git is doing. Just recorded 9 songs in a studio, and used Swamp Lord on some tracks, and Witch Burner by BATW, Pharao, and Damnation Audio MBD1. And on some tracks I just used the drive from the tube amp. Which by my surprise I really liked. It may be Im starting to base my sound off the drive from a good tube amp.

Since the fuzz pedals easily gets lost with the guitar.

The MKIII version of the Evil Eye has a gain and tone knob.
Evil Eye MKII | Minotaur Sonic Terrors
I have his Saturnine pedal and it's wicked. Great builder and nice guy. He does custom jobs too. Saw on Insta he built something called Evil Mud which is the Evil Eye and Mud Giant in one enclosure.

Black Arts is cool too. I only have a Black Forest. My friend has a regular Pharaoh and it's sick. Pharaoh and Swamp all day for muff tones.

I've been here since near the beginning, off and on. For a good while it was a really well-populated, really rocking thread. Then, there was a dust-up with the mods and a bunch of people left.

What kind?

Confession: I have my bass up high while playing. None of the cool stoner kids on line have theirs up high like I do, they are all knee-banging. I'm not cool!! (Sobs into pillow.)
Since I started my current project (and bought a new bass) I haven't played the bass standing up, only during down. I also might not be cool, but I just don't know.

Really, any kind I can afford. Mostly autocrossing (I'm totally average) and drag racing (actually pretty good at that one). I'm planning on trying out karts or time trials soon.

I spent Monday crawling around under a friend's car putting a shifter in it. After we were done, he gave me a bass he thought was broken and didn't want anymore. It wouldn't stay in tune for him. I got it home, and can't seem to get it to act up. It stays in tune for me, and sounds pretty dang nice. It's an older SX Junior Ursa, with a SD quarter pounder in it. Really inexpensive bass new, but it actually sounds great and plays pretty well, even though it's action is pretty high at the moment. I may leave the action high. The string tension's low and I can beat the strings to death with it that way.

In non-bass related news. I'm planning on buying this monster. It ties into stoner/doom, because I plan to play that kind of music on it, instead of only country and swing. It has a built in Jordan Boss Tone fuzz. :bassist:

Is SX a Texas company? Because I see those all the time on Craigslist but pretty much never anywhere else
