Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Current rig…had to finally admit I need something a little lighter than my Ripper clone. I also find myself needing to streamline the board some. I could easily get by without the EQ and compressor (esp with this bass over the Ripper). I wish the wah was a bit smaller but I appreciate all the functionality and adjustability of the WD-7. It’s a smoking bass wah.

Sounds super punchy, and the high gain distortion setup monstrously heavy and ballsy.

This is used for a solo stoner/doom rock project where the bass is the main instrument, with added played and programmed drums and percussion, vocals, plus some predominantly more flavor oriented additional instrumentation.

But the idea is that I would be able to play this live with a looper and a backing track, and/or a live real drummer.

I already got the bass parts and form ready for 9 songs, 6 regular, more or less traditional, stoner/doom rock songs, but mostly less traditional with elements of progressive/math rock, and 3 very melodic folky instrumentals, with working titles, and some early lyrics sketches, that is just waiting for me to start recoding and add drums, vocals and eventual additional instrumentation, meant for a full length Bandcamp release.

(But no, the project is not named "The Pea" ;), that's the name I very imaginative named the amp, after removing the original brand)

I am interested to hear all this in action.

Guy near me has one of those Earth heads for sale with the tuck n' roll still intact. Color me intrigued, but I'm OK with bringing the thunder with a Yorkville BLOC 150 15” combo. (~7 other bass heads and a 1x12 cab for backup)

1x15 combos are like the OG bringers of thunders. Remember your roots.

They’re Fender Showman clones, which happen to be pretty good bass amps. LOTS of lows on tap and ptp wiring means most techs actually like working on them. 100w 6L6 easily handles stage volumes, in my experience…but I also know it starts breaking up with the volume barely at 9:00 lol

Can't win lately...

Today, the fridge died! Only bit of solace is that I get to utilize Black Friday "sales", I guess? One of these days, I'll get back to my boring, predictable life. Hopefully sooner rather than later!
And not to worry, this only led to a small water problem... So for the moment we have to have the OLD, useless refrigerator hooked up because the water line won't leak while attached, but because we're still waiting on the the NEW refrigerator's ice maker, AND none of the local stores has any sort of plug/cap in stock to plug the leak, we can't use the new one until we fix the underlying cause of the the leak, which is a bad valve installed by the previous owner. And that will require actual plumbing skills involving soldering, cutting the water pipes, etc.

Thankfully, my father is incredibly handy, and is able to fix the plumbing issue. (I have no clue on how to do that sort of plumbing!) So I'm hopeful that by Friday afternoon, we'll have both a properly functioning water line AND refrigerator! And let's hope that it can be fixed before we have to travel Friday afternoon for another Thanksgiving feast, otherwise I may have to cancel on that one - or my wife and child will go without me.

I hope all of you are having a better time of it than I am, lately! And thanks for listening to my venting recently. One day, I again hope to vent about trivial nonsense like awkward pedal placement and tone minutiae. Doom on, doom room!

Hehe, when I read this, I originally thought "Damn, another 8x10 bites the dust".

Now, I understand you mean the refrigerated box that holds food. Sorry about that, we had a freezer die this year. Lots of wasted food when that happens.
We caught it early enough to save the food, and were able to cram the necessities into an old mini fridge and our deep freezer. Just lost random sauces like worcestershire, soy, etc. so that was at least okay.

Ah, I also use this 5 string 28.6" scale GSRM25 Mikro Bass, also tuned in G# standard tuning, but with an extra upper gauge .024 high E string :

Named "Mr. Growly - The Noodlemancer", the 4 string I have named "Dud Bottomfeeder".

Still cool af tho
Thanks, man. Back in the day a friend of mine had a whole mess of vintage/generally older Dean stuff and we bought/sold back and forth (mostly him to me since he had so many). Some moved on for various reasons but when he died a few years back I resolved to get every one that he ever sold to me back in my possession. This was the last of them and because of the hs repair pictured, the owner wouldn't ship it (totally understand). I cannonballed a 19hr round trip a couple weeks ago and finally got it back home. I'm never doing that again but it was worth it.
