Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

That went south fast, lol. What a horrible chorus.

Got to be honest, even though I've seen it take some flack on here, I liked The Hunter. It was definitely a different direction from their previous stuff but that was fine, every band has to change at some point. That was pretty painful though. For a while I thought it might be going somewhere but then it just flopped.

Hey I'm not going to knock anyone for liking The Hunter or this new track. I just personally hate both and am upset because Mastodon made some of my favorite albums.
Don't worry man, I know I'm not in danger of being judged (or at least not too harshly) here. You're Mastodon love comes across in the Supervoid album so I can see why it'd dismay you when they changed their sound. For me the problem with the track you linked is that it just sounds so lacklustre.

Also not sure if this falls under the motif of this thread but a new UK 'supergroup' with some sludgey influence some you of you my be interested in:

EDIT: I used the wrong your. This is unacceptable. Cooler 10 days!

A While back I posted about selling my 5 string ESP and picking up another bass. Well, I picked up another bass, but haven't sold the ESP yet. I'm VERY happy with the new beast.

Fender Blacktop Jazz. P/P pickups. $350 + $9 shipping

Also, I'm done with Circle K/Kalium Strings. Yet another E string (I use a BEAD set) that has about half the output of the others. I asked them if they had fixed the issue and they assured me that they had "played with the tapers to fix that issue" I've tried other strings on the bass with no issue, so it's not the setup. I LOVE the feel and sound of the strings, but I just can't have a nearly useless E string. Sigh... Does anyone have any thoughts on what comes close to the feel/sound of Circle K's?

That thing is sexy. Are those wired in parallel like a jazz?

Also, i was in the same boat. Loved the feel/sound of the strings that worked, but couldn't justify the cost on something I can't return when it's fuuckered on delivery.
