They are stonerish, I'd say, with a stronger psychedelic/mellow element. Love the Euporie Tide album.
Ahem—as I was saying, this has pretty much everything going on mentioned earlier by @Nashrakh and @Isaac_James and me: hammering/sliding from VII to I, notes (other than on one power chord) picked from the Phrygian mode, slow tempo, detuned five semitones from standard, all stringed instruments playing in unison (and I could have programmed the drums to drive that home even more, but I recorded this in a hurry).A bit of shameless self-promotion that happens to illustrate points made by @Nashrakh and @Isaac_James earlier:

While "stoner" generally means "fuzz," HM-2-style distortion has carved out its own niche on the heavier end of the stoner spectrum.
Another great stoner rock band worth checking out is SLIFT, from France (not to be confused with the weird American indie rock band Slint). Their album Ummon is one of my favorites from the last few years.
Me too. I've been on Return To Sky lately, Dust Meridian jams! To me they're psychedelic Miles Davis-ish with some hints of stoner. Love it!

Sleep must be of the heaviest out there. Don't know what effects they are using. Slow and heavy.

Giant, GIANT amp stacks. To whit -
Speaking of Slint - though they weren't a "stoner" band per se, they're morose feel and slow tempos would make for some pretty killer stoner-styled covers.
They are using a metric crapton of Orange amplifiers that would melt your brain if you happened to be in the same room as them while they were playing, for starters.
"Recording engineer Billy Andersen is on record saying that the guitars were recorded on custom-built amps designed to be so loud, no one from the band was capable of going into the same room as them. While the music blasted through the amps, more than half a dozen microphones stood nearby to pike up the monstrous sound waves billowing through the air."
Lol. Sleep are monstrous! And yes, SLIFT are groovy. All three of them are good but the drummer! His snare hits!
My advice? Set up the gear before you spark upOK, I'm starting to figure it out.
Seriously, set up the gear, tuned, dialed in sounds. Then go have a puff, come back and just play.
Assuming you have listened to the first 6 Black Sabbath albums a lot.
For me, the bass in these genres is all about setting the feel of the song, and the fluidity of the riffs. These songs should always have a pocket, in my opinion. I definitely trace part of the lineage back through the heavy funk of Parliament, Santana, etc.

Yes, I've done my Sabbath homework.
But it's contemporary eclectic bands like GOAT that prompted me to (attempt to) play stoner or stoner-ish stuff. Can't believe I bought not one but two fuzz/OD pedals...
