Stoner Rock: I like it a lot but...

I love doom/stoner music, but I think that's silly to think that it requires herbals for maximum enjoyment. Personally, I think the psychadellic ambience inherent in the genre does a decent job making you feel a little baked on its own :p

I think the music is meant to take you to a certain place in your head that was previously only accessible through sweet leaf.

That said, combining herbs (if you're into it) with music can yield interesting results. I enjoy a nice purple sage intake to Ravi Shankar from time to time. :D

If you don't like smoking weed that's understandable. But folks who actually enjoy stoner rock really owe it to themselves to eat a nice brownie or something. here are lots of ways to alter your consciousness and I respect a person's choices. But if you already enjoy stoner rock, there is a 95% chance you would enjoy cannabis. Just sayin'!

Oddly enough, I think I agree with this.

Also, you can't say you've "never done drugs" if you have drank alcohol or soda. In fact, caffeine is one of the most chemically addictive substances known to man... just sayin.

classifying music and fitting them into neat little categories is tough. i'm a huge Clutch fan, and really enjoy porcupine tree, but for entirely different reasons...it's interesting that my teenage son is starting to get into music, and i've taken him to a few clutch shows - where more than a handful of folks are fairly toasty. To each their own.

Being completely sober, it's a chance to show him that the music is what's important, not the category that they've been bestowed (or earned), and that even "stoner rock" (your term, not mine) can be enjoyed to its fullest without partaking.

We laugh that a huge group of Clutch fans are more interested in bashing each other in the pit, rather than listening/watching a pretty cool band.

You dont have to be a stoner to like stoner rock....but most stoners love it when they hear it. Black Sabbath was Acid rock but you dont have to trip to like it. PT is definetaly not stoner rock...progressive is closer. I like Kyuss, Orange Goblin, The Sword, High on Fire, Unida, I like them all. But THE SWORD is truly amazing, its like sabbath, maiden and pantera all playing at the same time. On a side note i got a bulletin on my myspace from The Sword "we are trading free tickets for something green in Indiana tommorrow night" but really if you havent heard their second album "Gods of the Earth" do yourself a favor and get it, Its just one of those groups i cant listen to without turning it up, their tone is awesome bass and guitar and i think they might have a three armed drummer.

Have you seen them live yet? They put on an absolutely amazing show when I saw them with clutch and graveyard a few weeks back. Their bassist has an amazing tone as well.

Oh, and just to add, I'm not against anybody else using "enhancers" for there enjoyment or to open their mind, I just choose not to.

I think people read into the name too deeply.
I'm pretty sure it's called that because it sound like music stoners would listen to or make.

merely shallow aesthetic observation.

that being said, kyuss is the only band I can think of who actually got better with each album. most bands start off strong and fade off...
lullabies to paralyze by the Queens of the Stone Age is the greatest thing ever.
their latest albums.....not so much.

if you don't know who blue cheer is, you need to find out.

Interesting style of music there - is it all instrumental like that? No lyrics?
I just checked out "Sonic Titan" by Sleep on Youtube...now I'm listening to Dragonaut - nice Ric in the vid.

I'm still on the fence about this genre...oh yea, and the stoner thing...the way I see it is, if you like something on the weeds, then you should listen to it sober to see if it's really worth your while. The best music can be listened to sober or not, but always enjoyed.
