Stoner Rock: I like it a lot but...

If you don't like smoking weed that's understandable. But folks who actually enjoy stoner rock really owe it to themselves to eat a nice brownie or something. here are lots of ways to alter your consciousness and I respect a person's choices. But if you already enjoy stoner rock, there is a 95% chance you would enjoy cannabis. Just sayin'!

Back in the years we were heavily into weed and stuff we used to listen to the Rich Kids on LSD, SNFU, NoFx or Suicidal Tendencies. I dont think there is a special connection to stoner or doom, but more a question of growing up (or old)...Teenage Rebellion

It's just a BS name made up for marketing the genre. Most musicians that play Kyuss style music reject the term as far as I've read in interviews etc.

Funny, when I listened to RKL and SNFU I was straight edge. Hardcore seemed to suit my teenage hormones PERFECTLY.

Things changed in college and for some reason I started to like slower stuff...

Porcupine Tree don't really ever approach being a stoner rock band. I think of Up The Downstair (awesome album) as primarily a psychedelic rock album but with a lot of electronic influences such as goa trance and ambient house. They get labelled as progressive rock band a lot, and later albums veer much closer to alternative metal. Steve Wilson pulls in influences from a pretty wide spectrum of music

agreed, they're more along the lines of psychedelic (like the poster above me mentioned).

I actually have them down as "Psychedelic/Space Rock" lol.

Speaking of Space Rock, Spacemen 3 are up there with Sleep in the pantheon of best "taking drugs to make music to take drugs to" bands. Not to cheapen my love of Sleep, mind you, but to quote Al Cisneros:

Same with me. Since I am older than 30 i even start to like Jazz, soul and....even some country stuff (and I stiff think this is a strange developement)
