I actaully saw 2 of theses this weekend at the Dallas guitar show. First time I've ever seen one in real life.

Old thread I realize but info to clarify the question. I own one of these units (Its a creamy pearl color). The Roland G77 is the bass version of the G707 guitar synth controller. The G707 is coupled to the GR707 synth whilst the G77's synth is the GR77B. The GR707 synth has the same synth engine as the Roland JX3P keyboard whilst the GR77B is a 4 voice version of the JX8P (the successor to the mighty Roland JP8 synth) On the G707 the black bar is used to deaden harmonics that travel along the neck and can cause problems with the pickups for the controller. The "hex" pickup senses the slightest string vibration. On the G77 (bass) it seems to be nothing more than decoration to keep in line with it's 6 string brother. The G77 can be played as a standard bass and is quite nice to play. It connects to the GR77B via Roland's 24pin cable. When set up correctly the G77/GR77B is a beast!! Compared to the G707/GR707(6 string) the bass is really quite rare to find. I have never regretted buying mine, it is in near mint condition and when the synth and bass sounds are "layered" you simply can't match it. It takes some getting used to as there is a little delay whilst the electronics read what the strings are doing but on the bass it is only 0.025secs (worst case). It might look odd but it grows on you. When you play it in front of a crowd you certainly get more than your fair share of attention as they all try and work out what the hell it is and how are you getting that huge sound..lol

not the '70's . . . more like late '80's, early '90's . . . The bass player was Eusebio "El Chivo" Cortez . . . a really fine player on BG and, when I worked with him (as an audio engineer) in the early '90's, he was practicing BG, Contrabass AND piano every single day . . . he really inspired me . . . . . .

BTW, the lead singer/main songwriter, Marco Antonio Solis ("El Buki") has had a very successful solo career since dis-banding "Los Bukis" in the late '90's . . .

Wow! I'm a big fan of him! Do you know if he actually used that bass for some of his recordings with Los Bukis and playing live? Or did he just used for palybacks in TV shows as in the video? Thanks!
