Strange hole in my new pbass

I got a new mim pbass for Christmas. I decided to change out the cap on the tone control and when I took the pick guard off I noticed a partially drilled hole above the control cavity that seems to have a small piece of red paper in it. The paper appears to have someone’s initials on it. Anyone see anything like this?

the overall routing is also quite "there".

Us old timers know this as a "stash hole"...you figure out why...

I work with CNC's everyday and although that big hole could be used as a reference point (or anchor point as we call them here), there's no reason they couldn't use much smaller holes in spots that are going to be either routed away or hidden afterwards (pickup cavity, under the bridge, etc.).

Somebody should make a pickguard with an access panel. I mean... who wants to take all those screws out to get to their change? (or stash...)

My theory is they do it to ruin it for those of us who would like to just remove the pickguard.
