Hey all, I have been dealing with this for a while and have come to the end of my rope. I don't think there's any fixing my issues, but it would be helpful to understand it a bit better?
Basically at random parts of the day, I will sit down to practice and anytime I add some dirt into my chain it sounds awful. Hard to quite explain, but almost a synthetic high pitched buzz? Every distortion ends up sounding the same, like a really pinched fuzz? Here's a soundcloud to hear it:
It just destroys the tone, you can even hear extra little artifacts, sounds like a bug zapped or David Lynch's company logo.
I have tried different power supplies (Currently using a brand new Ciocks sol), I have tried different cables, different basses, different pedals, different headphones, different amps. It's always there.
I have some lights in my house that when on, they add a different sound in my chain, those are off. I have even gone around the house and turned things on and off to see if it makes a difference. Nothing so far.
I for a time thought it was the sound of something clipping, like I was pushing something too hard? But my amp, audio interface and DAW don't show any clipping. It will even happen if I turn everything right down, it just makes it harder to hear!
A new and interesting find is that when I use the Feedback switch on my Fuzzrocious Cat King (Love this pedal) no matter how I adjust the settings, I can't get it to go from the low rumbley feedback to the ear piercing high pitched feedback that I usually get from it. This makes me think, its something to do with my house's electrics? I live in the UK in a maisonette (I have an upstairs neighbor)
It's not consistent either, sometimes it's the middle of the day, sometimes it is late evening.
I am wondering if this is a common issue? Something I just have to live with? Is there something I can do to test to find the specific issue?
