strange Wenge situation

If you are seriously interested in understanding more about wood surface changes thru photo degeneration I would suggest doing some home study. Do an internet search on the subject (US Forest service and other research studies). Many, many books cover the subject such as Hoadley's "Understanding Wood" and "The Encyclopedia of Wood" Library of Congress Catalog # 88-39719 for another. In short order you will know way more about the subject than you wanted :D

I'm surprised you don't like the variation- my main five has a big blond strip down the wenge fingerboard, and I love it. If I order a six, I'm going to specifically ask if he can get a board with the same striping.

I feel the same :)
I love the natural looking of woods, that's why I always feel some pain if I have to do some solid painting.. and can't understand, why the full-black ebony is more expensive, than the stripped ones! (okay, i suppose its more rare, and this came from the classic violin-making, where all-black were the etalone, but for me, the more unique the better...)

When I'm by myself, in private, I say "wenj". But I'm so afraid I'll say it that way in front of someone, and then they'll laugh at me.

I want to pronounce it "wenj"....like "wench" because someday I want to meet a girl who is the wenge wench.

But in front of the wood guys, I say "ven' gee".

Yeah, but not for the anglo's...they have different sounds to the letters from what you have, and I have a third set...and west Africa, where these woods come from, have yet another set of sounds, for which different colonizers tried to find each their spelling.

Hence the following clarification: Wenge is known to be pronounced something like "ven-ghe" outside the anglo sphere, the is with the g pronuonced like in "get".
The a's in padauk are pronounced as the u in "luck", while the u is pronounced as the oo in "fool" (just shorter).

Which I suppose was what eleonn was saying...but it's so nice to put the light on the results of the tower building in Babel.:hiding: gettng banned now??:hiding:
