Nope..not necessary because that light strip is sapwood and sapwood does not contain the extractives that produce the colors and is not affected by UV to the same degree..key words...same degree as heartwood.

Wilser, yes finishes containing UV inhibitors can be helpful in retarding the photo degeneration process, but they are usually in exterior finishes. You might try some Armor-all auto protectant over a dry finish.
