String ideas for drop tuning

Hey Guys,

I know these threads get done to death but scrolling through looking for answers gets tedious.

Basically...What do you recommend for a drop C# tuning on a 5 string keeping the top string in A#. (A# C# Ab C# F#). I like a good tension and a lot of bottom end with a nice mid cut through. Mainly for hard rock.

I am using DR DDT 5-55's at the moment but keep breaking the C# string. andyesit's setup correctly.

'top string' = thickest string? so low to high A# C# G# C# F# ?
What is good tension for you, what is your favourite E gauge?
You will need at least a .145 for the lowest, it will still be medium-light tension even at that gauge, make sure it's tapered.
This tension chart can be used to roughly approximate any roundwound Link Removed
Use it to see what tension you like for each of your strings then use those per-string tensions to get the gauges for your tuning.
If you like a .105 E then .145 .130 .085 .065 .045 has that tension on the higher 4 strings.
Either single strings, or a 5 string set .045 to .130 without the E string, plus a .145.
