String overlap on tuning post -- is this okay?

Hi everyone, hope all is well. So I picked up my Stingray 5HH from the shop, played it in the store through their small amp. Sounded great, put it in the gig bag, and came home. Later that night, I noticed this:

Beyond the really sloppy appearance of how the string was wound around the tuning post, are there short-term/long-term issues with how the work was done? I don't know if this affects string stability, intonation, or anything else. I've got some rehearsals and a gig coming and really don't want any issue popping up out of the blue.

Extreme levering by string pile-up can cause a tuning inconsistency. This is truly a guess on my part because I have never let the string pile up like that even on my starter steel string guitar, when I got it as a young teen.

Ps. If you have to reinstall the badly kinked string, the procedure may introduce an unintended twist. The twist will affect the tone.

Blech. Ugly if nothing else. Most likely harmless, but could lead to tuning instabilities in odd cases. I'd loosen them and re-do them.

we cant always have our ducks in a row nice and tidy, Doesn't affect anything imo, just looks messy. But best to have them all lined up on post best you can, sometimes strings will shift on the post because things are not flush and tight and tone might go flat or sharp depending. Heck atleast two of my posts look like those..lol

It's not the tidiest or the prettiest, but the important part about it is the last wrap coming out of the tuner post toward the nut is as close to the bottom as possible. I really don't think it's going to cause any issues the way they are.

Thank you everyone, appreciate your input. I'll loosen the string up and get it right. I'd rather bring it into the shop again since they "did" the original work but don't have time to do that. I'll send pics here once it's ready.

Other than being ugly it will not cause any problems. Always best, however, to have the last wrap as close to the bottom of the post as possible.

If it was my bass, I would rather leave it until the next string change than undo it and worry about all those bends.

Not pretty but if it works just leave it.

Thanks! This looks like Ernie Ball instructions for EB strings, is that right?

The strings are GHS Precision Flats and I didn't provide the OHSC with candy/instructions to the shop when I dropped it off.

I've always took issue with this.

Why do their strings require extra wraps to avoid slippage that other manufacturers do not not?

It keeps the string from slipping. Looks just fine.

I have never had a string slip using 2-3 wraps without overlap. This seems overly complicated. I'm sure EBMM has a good reason, but I don't buy it.

Why would you take it to the sop to restring it properly? Am I missing something?

The ErnieBall method is sound. The extra wind back through the post is to minimize string slippage since they have wider string posts than some (but not all) other manufactures. I myself have never had an issue stringing my Stingray the “standard” way vs their recommended way, but I get it.
