String questions..

I bought a Fender P-Bass yesterday and would like to put flats on it. Because of money constraints I can only really afford to buy them from Best Buy(yay for giftcards). While looking through the selection, I found a lot of the brands that people have talked about on here, but the kinds on there are "signature series". Is that typically a custom gague? Also, should I be looking for Long or Short scale, and what is the difference between them?

Is the bridge top load only or does it also string thru the body? If top load you need long scale. If thru the body you may need extra long, or long plus; it's a bit complicatd because some brands labeled long scale will fit thru body instruments.

The best thing to do is tell us what brands you're looking at.

I'm unaware of any "Signature" series flatwounds.

It's bridge load, so long scale. The signature series I'm looking at are Flea GHS's(45-100) and Beatle LaBella DTB (50-100) I don't know if that's "signature" or just what they're called. I bought Chromes yesterday not knowing I need long scale and broke a string while changing them so although it's my fault I'm leaning away from them a bit but am open to trying them as I've read a lot about how nice they can be.

Check and see if they carry the Fender 9050 flats, which are very affordable and get good reviews around here.

The 9050L (45-60-80-100) would be a good place to start. (I've just ordered a set for my Fender Jazz.)
They don't, sadly. That was the first brand I checked for. I can afford any strings on their website as they're not too expensive, I just don't have the cash for new strings right now. GHS, D'Addario, and Rotosound are the brands I'm seeing there that are being talked well about on here.

Flea GHS are not flatwound... they even are 45-105, not 100, roundwound nickel plated.

La Bella Beatle Bass are short scale strings designed to fit hollowbody basses like the Hofner 500/1, so they won't fit on a Precision bass.

I'm unaware of any "Signature" series flatwounds.

Steve Harris flats from Rotosound :P the only difference is in the silk colour, wich is different from headstock to bridge, to match che West Ham colours (red & blue)

I mostly misread or didn't click on the links to the different strings I was asking about. I didn't know about length which is why I asked, the rest I'm fairly confident I know. But thanks for the useful links. :)
