Double Bass String Recommendation for Arco(Audition)

My Son will be auditioning to represent his school at the Arkansas All State Orchestra competition in January 2019. He has been playing a set of Zyex strings for the last two years. There isn’t any pro instruction available in our area and he has advanced beyond my knowledge level. He is using a Upton Hybrid. He fully understands as I do, there is no substitute for hard work. All I can do is offer support when I can regarding some of the details concerning his gear. The audition consists of about 5 minutes of Arco playing with the judges behind a curtain. I spent about $500 on a bow last year and am now considering strings. He also uses the bass in jazz band BUT...I would be willing to buy a new set for him if someone could answer the following question. If you were in that same circumstance playing Arco for 5 minutes trying to squeak into one of 8 coveted spots and could play any string under $400 a set which string would you choose?

Permanent is a type of string made by the company Pirastro. They're a little stiffer and brighter than the Bel Cantos, a little less easy to bow but I chose to sacrifice that for the brighter tone.

That being said, I'm very much a string mixer/matcher, which definitely isn't for everyone. I don't think I've had a complete set of the same strings on since I was in high school.
